Cobi Jones Wiki Biography
Born as Cobi N’Gai Jones on the 16th June 1970, in Detroit, Michigan USA, he is a retired soccer player, best known to the world for playing 11 seasons with the Los Angeles Galaxy, winning several trophies including the MLS Cup twice, then the CONCAF Champions’ Cup once, and was the Major League Soccer Western Conference Champions five times with the LA Galaxy.
Have you ever wondered how rich Cabi Jones is, as of mid- 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Jones’ net worth is as high as $3 million, an amount earned largely through his successful career as a soccer player, which was active from 1994 until 2007.
From an early age, Cobi became fond of soccer, as he started kicking the ball when he was only five; he joined the American Youth Soccer Organization and began nurturing his soccer skills. He went to Westlake High School, where he continued to play soccer, and after matriculation enrolled without any scholarship at UCLA, where he developed into a young soccer star, working hard to become one of the best players at the University.
Cobi first started playing for the USA national team before joining any professional soccer club. He debuted in 1992 and during the King Fahd Cup that year scored his first two goals for the national team, when they played against Ivory Coast. Since then, he has made 164 appearances until 2004, becoming the all-time most capped player, while also scoring 15 goals during his career, with 22 assists. With the USA national team, Cobi won the CONCAF Gold Cup in 2002, when the USA team defeated Costa Rica 2:0 in the finals.
Following a number of successful appearances for his national team, Cobi became sought after by numerous European teams, including Coventry City of the England Premier League, with which he signed a contract, launching his professional club career. He stayed in Coventry one season, and in 24 games he scored two goals. His next stop was Brazil and Vasco da Gama, but after only four games, he was advised about the forming of the Los Angeles Galaxy franchise in the Major League Soccer, and soon became their player. He stayed with the Galaxy until the end of his career in 2007, making 306 league appearances and scoring 70 goals. He was one of the main contributors to the Galaxy’s dominance in the MLS, as they won the MLS Cup in 2002, 2005, the MLS Supporters’ Shield in 1998 and 2002, while they won the US Open Cup in 2001 and 2005. Furthermore, they were crowned champions of the Western Conference five times. Thanks to his successful career, Cobi’s jersey No. 13 was retired by the Los Angeles Galaxy, and by that he became the only player in MLS history whose jersey number was retired. However, No. 13 was returned to action when Jermaine Jones joined the club in January 2017. In 2011 Cobi was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Following his retirement, Cobi became assistant coach to Ruud Gullit at the Galaxy, and in 2008 became interim head coach after the departure of Gullit. However, that didn’t last long, since Bruce Arena was unveiled as the new head coach. Cobi then reverted to assistant coach and served in position until 2011, when he joined the New York Cosmos as associate director of soccer, and served until the end of the 2012 season. He is now the director of football at 4th-tier club City of Angels FC.
Regarding his personal life, Cobi has been married to Kim Reese since 2009; the couple has two children together.
