He is best known for being a folk musician – singer and songwriter, who has released a number of studio albums, including “The Pretender” (1976), “Lives In The Balance” (1986), “Time The Conqueror” (2008), among many others. He has been an active member of the music industry since the mid- 1960s.
Have you ever wondered how rich Jackson Browne is, as of early 2016? According to sources, it has been estimated that the total size of Jackson’s net worth is over $12 million, with the main source of his money being his successful involvement in the music and entertainment industries.[divider]
[divider]Jackson Browne was raised with three siblings by Clyde Jack Browne, an American serviceman, who worked in Germany for the newspaper “Stars and Stripes”, and his wife, Beatrice Amanda Browne. When he was only three years old, his family returned to the USA, to his grandfather’s house, Abbey San Encino, in the Highland Park, Los Angeles, California, where he went to Sunny Hills High School, from which he matriculated in 1966. Side by side with his education, Jackson became interested in music and he started to sing folk songs in local clubs.
Jackson`s professional music career began in the mid-1960s, when he joined the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, with which he recorded some of his songs such as “ “Shadow Dream Song”, “Holding”, and “These Days”. However, Brown left the band, and found a job at the Elektra Records, as a writer for Nina Music owned by the Elektra Records. After that he collaborated with Nico and Tim Backley, and later wrote lyrics and played guitar for Nico`s first album “Chelsea Girl”. Before he started a solo career, Browne was also a part of a folk band, which consisted of Ned Doheny, Glenn Frey and Jack Wilce.
With the beginning of the 1970s, Browne decided to try-out on his own and with the help of his agent, he signed a contract with Asylum Records. The following year, Jackson released his debut self-titled solo album whichachieved platinum status despite only reaching No. 53 on the US charts. The sales of the album, certainly increased Jackson`s net worth, and encouraged him to continue to produce music. His next album came out the next year, entitled “For Everyman”, which also made platinum status, further increasing his net worth. Since then, his career has gone only upwards, and so has his net worth. His next album came out in 1974 entitled “Late For The Sky”, and three years later his album “Runnin` On Empty” got toseven times platinum status, which increased his net worth by a large margin. In 1980, his album “Hold Out” topped the charts.
To speak further of his accomplishments, he has released 14 studio albums, however, after the 1980s, his career declined, and only the album from 1993 – “I`m Alive”, received gold status, while others such as “Looking East” (1996), and “The Naked Ride Home” (2002), couldn’t reach into the top 30 albums on the US charts. Nevertheless, in 2008, Jackson`s 13th album “Time The Conqueror”, reached No. 20 on the US chart, which certainly increased his net worth. His latest studio release is his 14th album, “Standing In The Breach”, which reached No. 15 on the US charts, increasing further his net worth.
Thanks to his successful career, Browne has received numerous prestigious awards, including induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2007. Furthermore, Jackson received honorary doctorate degree from the Occidental College in Los Angeles, for his achievement in music.
Speaking about Jackson Browne’s personal life, he has been married twice. His first wife was model and actress Phyllis Major from 1975 until 1976; they have a son named Ethan Zane Browne, who is also a model and actor; the two covered the magazine “Rolling Stone” in 1974. In 1981, Jackson married model Lynne Sweeney, with whom he has son, Ryan Browne, a singer in Sonny and the Sunsets band, but they divorced two years later. Currently, he is in a relationship with Dianna Cohen, havingpreviously dated actress Daryl Hannah.
Jackson is also known for his charity work and environmental activism. He is one of the founders of MUSE (Musicians United for Safe Energy), alongside John Hall and Bonnie Raitt. He also works with other organizations such as the Pediatrics AIDS Foundation, the Children’s Defense Fund, and others.
