Have you ever wondered how rich Charles Tillman is, as of mid-2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Tillman’s net worth is as high as $10 million, an amount earned through his successful career as a professional football player. In addition to making money on the field, Tillman also had numerous endorsement deals, which improved his wealth too.
Charles Tillman was born in Chicago but spent his childhood in various places across the world because of the nature of his father’s job; Donald Tillman Jr., was a sergeant in the US Army, and frequently moved between the US and Germany. Charles even went to 11 schools before finally gmatriculating from the Copperas Cove High School in Texas; he then went to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
From 1999 to 2002, Tillman represented the Louisiana–Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns football team as a left cornerback, even though he played a wide receiver in high school. After impressing at the NFL Scouting Combine, the Chicago Bears selected Charles as the 35th overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. Already in his rookie season, Tillman became a starter and recorded 83 tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles. He missed the half of the next year with an injury, but in 2005, Tillman was a major part of the Bears’ top defense in the NFL, making 93 tackles, five interceptions (one for a touchdown), and four forced fumbles, while in the following campaign, Tillman helped the Bears to reach the Super Bowl XLI, but they lost to the Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning, 17-29, Charles recording 11 tackles in the game.
In July 2007, Tillman signed a new, six-year multi-million deal with the Bears, which only increased his net worth to a large degree, and at the end of the year he was nominated for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, presented to the player who best served the community. The next season, Charles recorded 93 tackles, three interceptions (one for a TD), and four forced fumbles, while in 2009 and 2010, his tackling numbers dropped a little. However, in 2011, Tillman earned his first invitation to the Pro Bowl event after a fantastic season of 99 tackles, three interceptions (two defensive TD’s), three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. He repeated that success in 2012, securing a consecutive invitation to the Pro Bowl thanks to 86 tackles, three interceptions (three defensive TD’s), ten forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. In November 2012, Tillman’s four forced fumbles against the Tennessee Titans was the most in a match by any player since 1991.
The final two years with the Bears weren’t quite good for Charles, as he missed half of the 2013 season with a torn right triceps, and after Chicago re-signed him to a new one-year contract, Tillman re-injured his triceps in the Week 2 of the 2014 season against the San Francisco 49ers. After spending 14 years with the Bears, Tillman will be remembered as the team’s leader in defensive touchdowns with nine, while he also recorded most interceptions (36) of all Chicago’s cornerbacks. In April 2015, the Carolina Panthers signed Tillman on a one-year deal, but once again, he was unlucky and suffered a torn ACL on the final day of the regular season, and missed the remainder of the year as the Panthers went to Super Bowl 50, but lost to the Denver Broncos, 10-24. Charles Tillman announced his retirement from the NFL in July 2016.
