Casey Abrams was born on the 12th February 1991 in Austin, Texas USA, and is a musician, singer and songwriter, but is perhaps best known to the world for his appearance in the tenth season of “American Idol” (2011), and though he finished only sixth, it was an experience that kick-started his musical career.

Born into a mixed family of a Jewish father, and Catholic mother, it is an interfaith family and Casey didn’t have to choose sides. He and his family moved a lot during his childhood, to the Chicago area, living in Evanston, Illinois, and Wilmette where he went to McKenzie Elementary School.

After Wilmette, the Abrams family moved to Idyllwild, California where his father worked as a teacher of film production at Idyllwild Arts Academy. He went to high school in Idyllwild, and the enrolled at the academy where his father worked, studying classical bass instruction and improvisation, and where during his years there Casey was also a part of jazz ensembles, learning about music and also playing jazz piano. Furthermore, he was taught to write film music. He graduated in 2009, and continued his education in music at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Before he had taken his shot at becoming a professional musician, Casey was spending his days as a film counselor at Idyllwild Arts Summer Camp.

Always thinking he could do more, Casey auditioned for the tenth season of the highly popular talent show “American Idol” in 2011, and was selected as one of 24 semi-finalists, but was about to perform when he was taken to hospital with severe abdominal pain, although managing to recover for the performance night and was voted into top 13; from a young age, Casey has suffered from ulcerative colitis, which caused his abdominal pain, and it struck again and he missed the Top 13 results show, butthe judges decided to include him in the finals, and he ended as the sixth best candidate. During his stint on “American Idol”, Casey performed such songs as “A Hard Day’s Night”, by Beatles, “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, by Nirvana, and in his last episode, Casey sang a duet with Haley Reinhart, “I Feel the Earth Move”, originally performed by Carole King, and also sang “Hi-De-Ho”, by The City.

Although he didn’t win, Casey garnered attention to his name, and as a result he was invited by several influential show hosts, including Jay Leno. He was slowly building a name for himself, especially as a part of the subsequent American Idols LIVE! Tour 2011.

His recording career also started that year, when he and Haley Reinhart recorded the duet “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”. In January 2012 he signed a contract with the Concord Music Group and began working on his debut album. With the help of such music stars as Jason Mraz, Martin Terefe, Rune Westberg, and Toby Gad, Casey’s self-titled debut album came out in June 2012, reaching No. 101 on the US Billboard 200 chart, and sold 27,000 copies, which largely increased Casey’s net worth.

In 2015 he started working with Gingerbread Band on his EP, which came out in January 2016, entitled “Tales From the Gingerbread House”. The EP was released independently, therefore it didn’t chart, but did receive positive critiques.
