Carole Ann Jones Wiki Biography
Carol Ann Jones, better known by her stage name Carol Lynley, is an actress and former child model born on 13th February 1942, in Manhattan, New York City USA, and is probably most notable for her roles including in “The Cardinal” (1963), “Another World”( 1964) and “The Poseidon Adventure” (1972).
Have you ever wondered how rich Carol Lynley is? According to sources it has been estimated that Carol Lynley’s overall net worth is $10 million, as of July 2017, accumulated through a long-lasting acting career which started in the mid-‘50s. Since Carol has not yet officially withdrawn from public life, her net worth continues to grow.
Carol was born into a family of mixed origin – from her mother’s side English, Scottish, Welsh and German decent, and from her father’s side Irish. When she was still a child, Carol started a career as a child model, and was known as Carolyn Lee. At the age of 15, she discovered that her name was already taken by another actress so she modified it into Lynley. In 1957, Walt Disney saw her photo on the cover of “LIFE” magazine, and decided to cast her in “The Light in the Forest” (1958), Lynley’s debut as she received credits in the opening titles and starred next to James MacArthur. She continued appearing in roles on the Broadway stage, soon followed by Hollywood screenings, in which she was noted for her acting in the controversial drama “Blue Denim” (1959). Although it was a demanding role of a teenage character who dealt with unwanted pregnancy and abortion, Carol portrayed the role very well and was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in the category of Most Promising Newcomer – Female. Her best known roles came during the ‘60s, and she is today best remembered for appearing in movies such as “Return to Peyton Place”, “Bunny Lake is Missing”, “Under the Yum Yum Tree”, “The Cardinal”, “The Pleasure Seekers” and “The Poseidon Adventure” in which she performed the Oscar-winning song “The Morning After”, although her voice was in fact dubbed by singer Renee Armand. Also in 1965 Carol posed nude for the March edition of “Playboy” magazine; her net worth was rising steadily.
During the ‘70s Carol starred in TV series including “Kolchak: The Night Stalker” and “Fantasy Island”. Among her many other appearances were in television series such as “The Big Valley”, “It Takes a Thief”, “Mannix”, “The Invaders”, “Night Gallery”, “Hart to Hart”, “Kojak”, “Hawaii Five-O” and “Charlie’s Angels”. Her friendship with reporter Nelson Aspen resulted in Lynley appearing in several showbiz segments too. In 1999 she discussed her career on “TV Guide Television”, in 2003 she appeared in Australia’s no.1 morning show “Sunrise” in which she talked about the remake of “The Poseidon Adventure” and in “New with Nelson” she discussed her Oscar picks and all-time favorite winner – Frank Sinatra. When it comes to her most recent acting engagement, Carol starred in a short film “Vic” (2006), directed by the late son of Sylvester Stallone, Sage Stallone.
Privately, Lynley was married to publicist Michael Selsman from 1960 to 1964 and from that marriage she has a daughter, director Jill Selsman. Carol was a close friend of actor/dancer Fred Astaire and is quoted in the “Fred Astaire: His Friends Talk” (1988) book. She had an 18-year long affair with David Frost.

Carole Ann Jones Quotes
- I’ve never been in a scandal. I’ve never been caught running naked down a highway. I’ve not tried to shoot anybody. Nobody’s ever tried to shoot me. My child is legitimate… I’ve never been to Betty Ford… No porn… No drug addictions… I’ve outlived three of my doctors. So if you’re going to write a juicy book, I’ve got a problem.
Carole Ann Jones Important Facts
- Her father’s name was Cyril Jones, and her mother’s name was Frances Peltch.
- With her friend, entertainment reporter Nelson Aspen, Lynley appeared in several interstitial showbiz segments covering a variety of topics. For Australia’s #1 morning show Sunrise (2003), she reflected on the remake of The Poseidon Adventure (1972). On TV Guide Television (1999), she discussed her long career in television, film and on Broadway. For “New with Nelson”, she revealed some of her Oscar picks for that year and named her all time favorite Oscar winner as Frank Sinatra.
- Was close friends with actor/dancer Fred Astaire. In the 1970s, it was rumored in the press that they might even marry; however, 81-year old Astaire wed the two and a half years younger Robyn Smith in 1980. Carol is quoted extensively in the book “Fred Astaire: His Friends Talk” (1988), by Sarah Giles.
- Although in later years she claimed to have sung “The Morning After” in The Poseidon Adventure (1972), her voice was in fact dubbed by studio singer Renée Armand.
- Is a huge fan of Cameron Diaz, one of her favorite films being There’s Something About Mary (1998).
- Lynley owned the boots and pendant she wears in The Poseidon Adventure (1972). She complained during production that the boots were shrinking due to constant immersion in water, making them extremely uncomfortable.
- She was featured on the April 22, 1957 cover of LIFE Magazine. Walt Disney saw her photo and article, and decided to cast her in his release The Light in the Forest (1958). It was Carol’s debut (she received an “and introducing” credit in the opening titles), but it was also her swan song for Disney’s studio. Opposite James MacArthur, a Broadway actor, both gave convincing performances, receiving mixed critical reaction, mostly because of the entrenched polarized “pro” and “anti” Disney factions.
- Her only child is a daughter with ex-husband Michael Selsman named Jill Selsman (born March 2, 1962).
- “Carolyn Lee” was her modeling name — a name that was already registered with Actors’ Equity, so she changed it to use the homophone “Carol Lynley”.
- She had an affair off and on with David Frost for 18 years.
