Although born in Kendallville, Indiana, Brad went to Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine, but after matriculation he returned home and enrolled Purdue University. In his first year in college, he was a part of the universities team, the Boilermakers, and averaged 6.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. The following year, his numbers improved, as he averaged 9.6 points with 5.5 rebounds per game – The Boilermakers reached the NCAA Second Round that season.
