Bob Schieffer was born on 25 February 1937, in Austin, Texas USA, and is a television journalist, best known for his work for CBS, covering major national assignments in and from Washington. He has interviewed several Presidents and presidential candidates since Richard Nixon. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

Schieffer attended North Side High School, and after matriculating went to Texas Christian University (TCU). During college, he became a member of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, and after graduating served in the US Air Force, working as a public information officer at Travis Air Force Base. After being honorably discharged, he worked as a reporter for Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and even travelled to Vietnam in the early ’60s to profile soldiers. One of his most notable works during this time was when he was able to pretend to be a detective and gain access to a lot of information regarding President Kennedy’s assassination which became a feature in Star-Telegram. In 1973, Bob joined CBS and became the anchor of the “Sunday Evening News” broadcast, a position he would hold until 1997. Four years after becoming an anchor, he was given the “Saturday Evening News” broadcast as well. During his career he’s been put to all major Washington assignments, including the Pentagon and the White House; in 1972 he became Chief Washington Correspondent. After Dan Rather retired, Bob became the interim anchor for “CBS Evening News”, and during this time, he was able to increase the number of viewers, which peaked at 7.7 million making the show highly competitive against other news networks. He made his last news broadcast in August 2006, but returned to undertake several segments as Chief Washington correspondent. Another project that he’s been a part of was the George W. Bush and John Kerry debate in 2004, of which he was the moderator. He was also the moderator for the debate between Obama and McCain in 2008.

In 2015, Schieffer announced his intention to retire having been working in the field of journalism for 52 years. His final broadcast was held in May 2015 and he mentioned that a lot of people remember him because the other people retired. Since leaving broadcasting, he’s been collaborating with various musicians in Washington DC. He’s even made four songs with the band Honky Tonk Confidential.

For his personal life, it is known that Bob married Patricia Penrose in 1967, and they have two children. His younger brother is Tom Schieffer, who’s been named numerous times as US Ambassador to several countries. Bob is also a survivor of stage III bladder cancer, but has been cancer free since 2004. He also has type-2 diabetes which need regularly treatment.
