Benjamin Netanyahu Wiki Biography

Benjamin Netanyahu was born on 21 October 1949, in Tel Aviv, Israel, and is a politician, best known for being the current Prime Minister of Israel. He is also a member of the Knesset and the Chairman of the Likud party. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Benjamin Netanyahu? As of late-2016, sources estimate a net worth that is at $11 million, mostly earned through a successful career in politics. He was also part of the Israeli Defense Forces, becoming a team leader in the Sayeret Matkal Special Forces unit. He’s won numerous elections, and all of these activities have ensured the position of his wealth.

Benjamin was raised in Jerusalem, but in 1956 his family moved to the United States, where he attended Cheltenam High School and was an active member of the school’s debating club. After matriculating, he returned to Israel to join the Israeli Defense Forces. He trained as a soldier and would then serve for five years as part of the Sayeret Matkal; during 1967 to 1970, he became part of numerous raids during the War of Attrition, and thanks to his achievements, he became the team leader .

He completed his army service in 1972, and went back to the United States to study architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The following year, he returned to Israel to serve during the Yom Kippur War, after which he again returned to the United States and completed his degree. He would then earn an SM degree from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 1977, graduating near the top of his class and subsequently being hired by the Boston Consulting Group, which established his net worth. The following year, he returned to Israel and started connecting with numerous high ranking Israel officials.

In 1988, he joined the Likud party and would become a member of the 12th Knesset. He became the principal spokesman during the Gulf War in 1991, and would eventually be appointed as Deputy Minister. In 1993, Netanyahu emerged as the leader of the Likud party, and would eventually be voted in as Prime Minister after the 1996 Israeli legislative election, becoming the youngest person in the history of the position. During his first premiership, he had difficulties maintaining the peace, and lack of progress eventually led the way to the Wye River Memorandum. He also started working towards a free market economy to allow Israelis to invest in other countries. He was accused over several alleged scandals during this time, and was defeated in the 1999 election by Ehud Barak.

The Barak government faltered quickly, and Netanyahu started to recover and expressed desire to return to politics, however he didn’t campaign during this time, and was instead appointed as Foreign Minister. In 2002, he swore under oath before the US House of Representatives that Iraq was working its way to nuclear power. In 2003, Benjamin became part of the Finance Ministry and was given complete freedom in the position, starting to streamline the taxation system; taxes were cut, but he would resign in 2005.

He vied for leadership of Likud once again, which he gained later in the year. He was then nominated as the candidate for the Prime Minister post, and he eventually entered his second premiership, and would work on numerous programs including a national unity government. He also started the construction of 1600 apartments called Ramat Shlomo in so-called occupied lands, which found controversy with the US. After the 2013 election, Netanyahu entered his third premiership and continued to focus on economic liberalization, and would continue this run in 2015 when he was re-appointed once again. Some of the recent projects he’s focused on include agricultural reform.

For his personal life, it is known that Benjamin has been married three times, firstly to Miriam Weizmann and they have a daughter. His first marriage ended due to an affair, and he would then marry the woman involved, Fleur Cates. They divorced in 1984 and Netanyahu then married Sara Ben-Artzi in 1991. They have two children.

Benjamin Netanyahu Quotes

  • [addressing the U.S Congress, 2015] I know that no matter on which side of the aisle you sit, you stand with Israel.
  • [on Iranian president Hasan Rouhani] His strategy is ‘Be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Smile and build a bomb’.
  • Those in the international community who refuse to put red lines before Iran don’t have a moral right to place a red line before Israel.
  • I think it’s important to place a red line before Iran, and I think that actually reduces the chance of a military conflict because, if they know there’s a point – a stage in the enrichment or other nuclear activities that they cannot cross, because they’ll face consequences – I think they’ll actually not cross it.
  • I’ve been right more than I’ve been wrong.
  • My son tells me I have too many yes-men around me. Oh, what I would give for just one yes-man.
  • My father gave me two pieces of advice when I went into politics. ‘Never touch money, and don’t use ad hominem attacks on people’. But when I became Prime Minister I asked him, ‘What attributes does one need to lead a country?’ He was older then and he asked me ‘What do you think?’ I said ‘You need convictions and courage and the ability to act’. He said, ‘You need that for anything. What you need to lead a country is education’. And by that he meant an understanding of history, the knowledge to be able to put things in perspective. I didn’t expect that answer.
