Richard Burr Wiki Biography

Richard Mauze Burr was born on 30 November 1955, in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA, and is the senior Senator from North Carolina, serving in that position since 2005. He was previously a part of the House of Representatives, representing North Carolina’s 5th congressional district. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Richard Burr? As of early-2018, sources estimate a net worth that is over $3 million, mostly earned through a successful career in politics. He also worked as part of a business prior to starting his political career. As he continues his endeavors, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.

Richard matriculated from Richard J. Reynolds High School, and afterwards attended Wake Forest University, completing his degree in Communications in 1978. During his student days, he played for the football teams of both his schools. He then worked for the Carlswell Distributing Company for the next 17 years, becoming a sales manager and focusing on the distribution of lawn equipment. His net worth increased over the years; he had no thoughts of becoming a politician until the 1990s, when rising taxes finally became a concern.

In 1992, Burr ran against Stephen L. Neal for the US House of Representatives but he lost, but two years later campaigned again after Neal chose not to seek re-election, and was elected to Congress during a landslide year for Republicans, advocating lower health costs, economic development, as well as strong school systems. He authored the FDA Modernization act of 1997, and helped create the National Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, also sponsoring amendments for the improvement of defenses against bioterrorism after the 9/11 attacks. He would also co-sponsor an amendment to the Energy Policy Act of 2003. He was re-elected throughout his entire run until 2004, when he decided to seek a position in the Senate.

Richard won the Senate election in 2004 against Democratic nominee Erskine Bowles for the Senate seat position vacated by Democrat John Edwards.

During his tenure, he served as a Chief Deputy Whip during the 111th congress, and also sought the position of the minority whip but eventually dropped out of the race. He became the chairman of the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence which led investigation into the Russian interference during the 2016 US elections. Other assignments he had include being a part of the Committee on Finance, Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. He is also a part of the Special Committee on Aging. He has been re-elected to his Senate position three times, but has said that he will not seek re-election to a fourth term in 2022.

For his personal life, it is known that Burr married real estate agent Brooke Fauth in 1984 and they have two children together. He owns a 1973 Volkswagen Thing which is well-known on Capitol Hill. He is also known to avoid reporters, even climbing out of his office window with his dry cleaning to try and avoid them. Burr is also a member of the United Methodist Church.
