Barbara Pierce was born on the 8th June 1925, in New York City, USA, and as Barbara Bush was best known for being the former First Lady of the United States as she was the wife of its 41st President George H. W. Bush, who was in office between 1989 and 1993. She was also the mother of the 43rd President of the United States George W. Bush. She passed away in 2018.

Have you ever wondered how much wealth this famous spouse accumulated? How rich Barbara Bush was? According to sources, it is estimated that the total of Barbara’s net worth, as of early 2018, revolves around the sum of $25 million which she primarily acquired through her engagements on the American political scene, active between 1981 and 1993, and as an author.

Barbara was born the third of four children of Marvin and Pauline Pierce in New York City’s borough of Queens, but was raised in Rye, New York; apart from American, she is also of British and German descent. During her childhood, she became an avid reader and was also very interested in sports such as tennis and bike riding. Between 1931 and 1937 she was schooled at Rye Country Day School after which she attended Ashley Hall boarding school in Charleston, South Carolina, between 1940 and 1943. Although she enrolled at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts in 1943, she dropped out after a year and began working at the Lord & Taylor department store, but due to the ongoing World War II, she later transferred to a nuts and bolts factory producing US Army supplies. These engagements provided the modest basis for Barbara Bush’s net worth.

During a Christmas dance in 1941 at the age of 16, Barbara met Philips Academy Andover student George H. W. Bush, and after a year and a half they became engaged, and married in January 1945. After her husband ended his military service, they settled in Midland, Texas, where George entered the oil business, and founded the Zapata Corporation in the mid-1950s. In 1959 he entered politics, and was chosen as the local Republican Party office chairman. To greater prominence the Bush family came in 1966, when he was elected as a Texas Representative in the US Congress. This achievement put Barbara and her husband on the national political scene, which later made an impact on their net worth.

As the congressman’s wife, Barbara became involved in various women’s groups and charity organizations during the 1960s. In the mid-1970s, she followed her husband to China where he served as chairman of the US Liaison Office. In 1981 when her husband was appointed as Vice-President of the United States, Barbara became its Second Lady, and during this eight-year long tenure she was heavily involved in various literacy organizations, and several charity organizations too. It is certain that all these activities helped Barbara Bush to build a household name, as well as to gain a huge amount of popularity, as well as somewealth.

In January 1989, she began her four-year tenure as the First Lady of the United States when her husband George H.W was elcted President. While still being active in literacy organizations and committees, she also founded the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. Apart from these, she was involved with the White House Historical Association, and also revived the White House Endowment Trust. All these accomplishments helped Barbara Bush to increase her presence on the national scene, and add somewhat to her net worth.

After leaving the White House in 1993, Barbara and George moved to Houston, Texas, where they continued to reside, but also at another residence in Kannebunkport, Maine. Together, they welcomed six children, including George Jnr and ‘Jeb’, who became governor of Florida. Apart from those already mentioned above, Barbara  published several other books, including two children’s books “Millie’s Book” and “C. Fred’s Story” as well as “Reflections: Life After the White House” and “Barbara Bush: A Memoir” which certainly enlarged the size of her wealth.

Barbara Bush had several health problems in her later years, including intestinal and heart surgery. She passed away on 17 April 2018, at the family home in Houston.
