A Native of Quitman, Mississippi, after finishing high school Antonio enrolled at the University of Alabama, and became one of the best players in his class, leading his Crimson Tide in scoring and rebounding during his sophomore season. However, in 1995 he declared for the NBA Draft, forgoing his last two years in college.

He was selected as the second overall pick by the Los Angeles Clippers, however, he was traded to the Denver Nuggets just before the season’s start. In his rookie season, Antonio played in 76 games – in all but one he was the starting power forward, and averaged 13.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, which earned him selection into the NBA All-Rookie First Team. For his second season, Denver’s head coach Bernie Bickerstaff was let go after a terrible start and was replaced by Dick Motta who saw the offensive talent in Antonio, and as a result, he averaged 18.3 points per game, with 7.3 rebounds.

However, Antonio was traded to the Phoenix Suns in 1997, for which he played in 81 games, and had 15.1 points with 7.6 rebounds on average. Nevertheless, Antonio returned to the Nuggets in the 1998-1999 season, in a controversial deal as he had firsty verbally confirmed that he was staying with the Suns. He played in 50 games during a lockout-shortened season, and posted his best numbers, with a double-double in average, having 21.2 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. He stayed in Denver until the 2001-2002 season ended, when he was traded to the New York Knicks. Early that season, he suffered a season-ending injury, rupturing a Patellar tendon, which kept him sidelined for the 2002-2003 season as well, although attempting a comeback in the 2002-2003 season while with the Knicks, unfortunately, he again injured his knee, and in 2004 he was sent to the Phoenix Suns.

His numbers declined drastically, and he couldn’t contribute to the Suns team, but joined the Detroit Pistons in the 2004 off-season, playing for the Pistons until 2009, but unfortunately his numbers were nowhere near to the ones he had before injuring his knee. Antonio spent his last two seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, averaging just around 5 points per game. He subsequently retired in December 2011.
