Anthony Weiner Wiki Biography
Anthony David Weiner was born on 4 September 1964, in Brooklyn, New York City USA, of Jewish descent. Anthony is a politician, best known as the former Congressman of New York’s 9th congressional district – a position he held from 1999 up to 2011 – and was also previously a member of the New York City Council. All of his endeavors have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Anthony Weiner? As of mid-2016, sources estimate a net worth that is at $750,000, mostly earned through a career in politics. He also previously stood as a candidate for the mayoral position in New York City, and served seven terms in Congress before resigning. As he continues his career, it is expected that his wealth will increase.
Weiner took the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test which led to him being admitted to Brooklyn Technical High School. After matriculating in 1981, he attended State University of New York at Plattsburgh, as he had the intention of becoming a television weatherman. He played hockey and eventually found interest in politics, becoming part of the school’s student government. In 1985, he graduated with a degree in political science and then joined the staff of United States Representative Chuck Schumer, working for Schumer’s DC office for three years before moving back to Brooklyn. During this time, Chuck convinced Weiner to try his hand at local politics.
In 1991, the New York City Council expanded from 35 to 51 seats, and Weiner attempted to gain a seat despite a relatively low chance of winning. However, he won a close primary by less than 200 votes and eventually won the November election, becoming the city’s youngest councilman. Over the next seven years, he would focus on quality of life concerns, and worked on other projects including the revival of Sheepshead Bay. He also sought to increase funding for public housing, and increase the number of police officers.
In 1998, he ran for Congress in a seat which had been held by Chuck Schumer who was now running for the US Senate; he won the primary election and eventually the seat. He would work on a lot of domestic issues, including supporting health care reforms that would provide Medicare to all Americans. He also sponsored the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking Act of 2009 ,and went against the opposition of the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act. He objected a $20 billion deal that was negotiated between the Bush administration and Saudi Arabia, and voted on force against Iraq in 2002. He later criticized the $60 billion arms deal to Saudi Arabia done by the Obama Administration. Anthony went on to earn a lot of criticism because of the demands on his staff to work long hours; he also reportedly yelled at them often. He went against these claims but admitted that he did push his aides hard. Regardless, his net worth rose steadily.
In 2011, Weiner’s Twitter account sent a link of an explicit photograph of himself to another woman following him on the social media website. He denied linking the image, but later held a press conference admitting that he had exchanged explicit messages with several women over the last three years. In 2011, he resigned from Congress following another sexting scandal, and in 2013 another scandal was revealed during his mayoral campaign. In 2016, after it was reported that he had contacted another woman, his wife Huma Abedin announced their separation.
Aside from politics, he created the Woolf-Weiner Associates consulting firm and it helped improve his income. He received a lot of criticisms for his consulting work, but in 2015 was hired by MWW Group, however, his tenure ended after just two months.
For his personal life, in 2010, he married personal aide Huma Abedin and they have a son – they separated in 2016. It is known that Weiner is a fan of both the New York Islanders and the New York Mets.
