Albert Leones “Al” Greene Wiki Biography

  • Albert Leones “Al” Greene, sometimes referred to as “The Reverend,” was born in Forrest City, Arkansas, USA, on April 13, 1946.
  • He is a soul musician-singer, songwriter, and record producer, perhaps best known for hit singles such as “Love And Happiness,” “Tired Of Being Alone,” and “Let’s Stay Together,” and is recognized as one of the greatest soul singers of all time.
  • His career, since 1967, has been involved.
  • The total size of Al’s net worth was calculated from reports to be $10 million, which was earned by his active participation in the music industry.
  • When he became an ordained pastor of the Full Gospel Tabernacle, he increased his fortune as well.
  • The publication of his autobiographical book “Take Me To The River” offers another source (2000).
  • Al Green, who served as a sharecropper, is the sixth of ten children raised by Cora Lee and Robert G. Greene, Jr. Al began performing together with his brothers in their own group, the Green Brothers when he was 10 years old.
  • The family later moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he attended high school, and where Al Greene & the Creations vocal group was formed.
  • The group soon changed its name to Al Greene & the Soul Mates and released a single “Back Up Train” which, however, struggled miserably in the subsequent releases, as well as their first studio album of the same name.
  • Al persisted with music, however, and his next album, entitled ‘Green Is Blues‘, was released in 1969, reaching No. 3 on the US R&B Charts.
  • This inspired Green to remain in the same genre of music, and during the 1970s his popularity grew tremendously.
  • The gold and platinum status were reached by some of his albums, which only boosted his net worth, and also topped the US R&B Charts.
  • “Let’s Stay Together” (1972), “I’m Still in Love with You” (1972), “Call Me” (1973), “Livin ‘for You” (1973), “Al Green Explores Your Mind” (1974), and “Al Green Is Love” (1975), all on the US R&B charts, reached No. 1.
  • He got lost again along the way in the 1990s, when some of his albums, such as “From My Soul” (1990), “Love Is Reality” (1992), and “Don’t Look Back” failed to chart (1993).
  • By releasing albums I Can’t Stop (2003), which reached No. 9 on the US R&B chart, and his last studio album Lay It Down (2008), which reached No. 3 on the US R&B chart, he managed to regain his success in the 2000s.
  • Al has received several prestigious nominations and awards thanks to his talents, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, and also into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2004.
  • In addition, at the BET Awards, Al received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009.
