Joseph Pierre Torry Wiki Biography
Joseph Pierre Torry was born on 28 September 1965, in St. Louis, Missouri USA, and is a comedian and actor, perhaps best recognized through his guest appearances on various shows such as “ER”, “NCIS”, and “Jon Stewart”. He’s also done various commercials for companies such as Nike and Pepsi. All of his endeavors have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Joe Torry? As of mid-2016, authoritative sources estimate a net worth that is at $1 million, mostly earned through a successful career in acting, appearing in numerous television shows and films. He also does a lot of philanthropic work, and as he continues his career it is expected that his wealth will increase.
Joe attended Lincoln University, graduating with a degree in mass communications/broadcast journalism. A few years after school, he pursued acting at the age of 23 when he quickly became known for his humor as seen in films such as “House Party” and “Strictly Business”. Soon afterwards he would make a string of guest appearances on popular shows such as “NYPD Blue” and “Girlfriends”, and regularly appeared in live shows such as “The Conan O’Brien Show”, “The Byron Allen Show”, and “Def Comedy Jam”. Thanks to his performances in shows including “Amen” and “Roc”, Torry was given the opportunity to host “Def Comedy Jam” after Martin Lawrence left the show; this would prove fruitful for him as he started to make a name for himself, and so was given more opportunities. A few films he has subsequently appeared in include “Poetic Justice”, “Tales from the Hood”, “Mannsfield 12”, and “Hair Show”. He has also been spotted regularly in commercials – all add to his net worth.
Aside from these, Joe is often seen working with other comedians and friends. A few of his latest films include “Caught On Tape” and “Why Am I Doing This?” He’s made more television appearances lately, in such as “The King Assassin Show”, and “Zane’s The Jump Off”. He also has his own website – mrjoetorry.com – which showcases a few of his upcoming projects.
Aside from acting, Joe has started his own production company called MO Films which he established in 2003. The company aims to showcase talent from the Midwest including actors, musicians, and artists. He writes and produces various projects as part of the company, and frequently works with his brother, Guy Torry who is also an actor.
For his personal life, it is known that Joe has an older son from a previous relationship, however, he’s been married to Chrystal Benson since 1998 and they also have a son together. He and his family currently reside in Los Angeles. Torry was given The President’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001, and an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Humane Letters by his alma mater, plus induction into the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame the following year. Aside from that, Joe also does philanthropic work, creating the Giving Back the Love Foundation which aims to help the local community and youth in St. Louis.
