Born Zina Lynna Garrison on the 16th November 1963 in Houston, Texas USA, she is a retired professional tennis player, who won 14 titles in singles and reached No. 4 on the WTA list in 1989, which was her highest rating. Have you ever wondered how rich Zina Garrison is, as of mid- 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Garrison’s net worth is as high as $2 million, earned largely through her career as a tennis player, which was active from 1982 to 1997.
She spent her childhood growing up with her six older siblings in Houston. When she turned 10, Zina entered a tennis club and just two years later participated in her first official tennis tournament. Taking steps forward, Zina won the national girls’ under 18s title when she was 14 years old, and then in 1981 won the junior titles at Wimbledon and the US Open, which made her No. 1 junior player. Parallel with her ongoing career, Zina went to Sterling High School located in her hometown, and after matriculating in 1982, turned professional the same year, and didn’t attend the school ceremony as she was busy playing in the French Open, where she reached the quarter-finals, in which she lost to Martina Navratilova. During her first professional season, Zina’s mother passed away which left a big mark on her, leaving her with bulimia. Despite the illness, she played extremely well, reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open, and ended the season as the No. 10 player. In 1984 came her first singles title, when she won the European Indoor Championships in Zürich, edging out Claudia Kohde-Kilsch 2:1. She subsequently won thirteen more titles, and played in 22 finals overall, which only increased her net worth. She won tournaments in Denver, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Sydney, Oakland, Chicago, Oklahoma City, Budapest, and Birmingham. She didn’t have much luck in grand slams, reaching only the 1990 Wimbledon final but losing to Navratilova in straight sets.
Zina had more success in women’s doubles, winning 20 titles partnering with Gabriela Sabatini in her early career, then with Lori McNeil, Katrina Adams, Martina Navratilova, Patty Fendick, and Mary Joe Fernandez, among other players. This also added to her wealth.
Zina is also the Olympic Games bronze medalist from Seoul 1988, and doubles gold medalist from the same event, partnering Pam Shriver to defeated Jana Novotná and Helena Suková to win the gold medal for the USA.
Zina retired in 1997, and since then has stayed in professional tennis, working as a commentator and also captaining the US Federation Cup team until 2008, and coaching the 2008 Beijing Games tennis team. Most recently, she was appointed as the coach of Taylor Townsend, further increasing her wealth.
Regarding her personal life, Zina was married to Willard Jackson from 1989 until 1997, but has apparently been single since then.
She is known for her philanthropic activities; back in 1988, she started the Zina Garrison Foundation for the Homeless, while four years later founded the Zina Garrison All-Court Tennis Program, which is focused on providing tennis training to children from inner-city Houston.
