According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Vargas’ net worth is as high as $3 million, an amount earned through his successful career in the entertainment industry which began in the late ‘80s, during which he has appeared in more than 100 film and TV titles.
Although born in Michoacán, Mexico, Jacob spent his childhood in Pacoima, Los Angeles, California, where he went to San Fernando High School. While in high school he started doing break-dancing, and was spotted by a talent manager who auditioned him for a part in the TV series “Diff’rent Strokes” in 1978, and was cast as a break dancer.
After finishing education he continued to pursue a career in the entertainment world, securing a brief role in the TV series “Hunter” in 1986. The same year he featured in several films, including the “Last Resort” as Carlos, and by the end of the decade Jacob had roles in such productions as “Ernest Goes to Camp” (1987), “The Principal” (1987), “Little Nikita” (1988), starring River Phoenix and Sidney Poitier, and “Crack House” in 1989, increasing his net worth.
Then next decade was quite successful for Jacob, he started with the role in “American Me” in 1992, and continued with the film “Mi Vida Loca” (1993), portraying Ernesto, for which he received ALMA Award in category Emerging artist of the year. Two years later he appeared in Gregory Nava’s Oscar Award-nominated “My Family”, and then had one of the lead roles in the biographical film about late music star Selena, in the film “Selena” (1997), playing her brother Abie Quintanilla. Before the end of the ‘90s, Jacob also featured in “Santa Fe” (1997), “The Hi-Lo County” (1998) with Billy Crudup, Woody Harrelson and Patricia Arquette.
He transferred the momentum from the late ‘90s into the new millennium, and in 2000 appeared in the comedy “Next Friday”, and in Steven Soderbergh’s Oscar Award-winning thriller “Traffic” starring Michael Douglas, Benicio Del Toro and Catherine Zeta-Jones, winning the Screen Actors Guild Award and another ALMA Award for his work in the film.
In 2002 he was selected for the role of Ernesto Tiant in the TV series “Greetings from Tuscon” (2002-2003), and in 2004 portrayed Sammi in the adventure “Flight of the Phoenix”, and the following year appeared in the war drama “Jarhead” (2005) starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jamie Foxx and Lucas Black. Three years later he had the lead role in the film “Sleep Dealer”, and in 2010 appeared in the horror “Devil”, with Bokeem Woodbine and Chris Messina.
