Yuriorkis Gamboa Toledano was born on the 23rd December 1981, in Guantanamo, Cuba and is a boxer, best known to the world as the unified featherweight world champion, as he held WBA and IBF titles from 2009 until 2011. His professional career started in 2007.

Little is known about Yuriorkis’ childhood and growing up on the whole. During his amateur career, he became Cuban national champion four times, while he also won gold medals in the Pan American Games in 2003, then the gold medal at the 2004 Olympics, and in 2006 he became World Cup champion.

He was so dominant in the fight, that Edwards was knocked down in the first 30 seconds of the match, and after a second knockdown, the referee named Yuriorkis as the winner of the bout. He then fought Darling Jimenez for the vacant WBC International super featherweight title, and won by unanimous decision, sporting a perfect 10-0 score. In the same year, he faced Al Seeger and won the WBO-NABO featherweight title, defeating his opponent in the second round by TKO. These accomplishments increased Yuriorkis’ net worth to a large degree.
Yuriorkis lost his first fight in 2014 to Terence Crawford, in a match for the WBO lightweight title, but before the loss, he amassed a record of 23 wins, winning WBA interim featherweight title against Jose Rojas in 2009, then defending his titles against Whyber Garcia, Rogers Mtagwa, Jonathan Victor, and also won the WBA and vacant IBF featherweight titles, in the fight against Orlando Salido in 2010.
In recent years, Yuriorkis has fought in the non-titles matches, against Joel Montes de Oca, whom he defeated in the sixth round by TKO, then Hylon Williams Jr., and Rene Alvarado, both by unanimous decision.
