Win Butler Wiki Biography
Edwin Farnham Butler III, born on 14 April 1980, is an American musician who became well-known as the lead vocalist of the band Arcade Fire.
So how much is Butler’s net worth? As of late 2016, based on authoritative sources, it is reported to be $5 million, acquired from his years in the music industry.
Born in Truckee, California, Butler is the son of Liza Ray, a jazz harp player and singer, and Edwin Farnham Butler II, a geologist. Most of his early years were spent in The Woodlands, Texas, before he was sent to a preparatory school in New Hampshire.
During his time at the Philips Exeter Academy, Butler discovered his love for performing, and participated in various related school activities. Although he was also fond of playing various sports like softball and basketball, he was most invested in participating in student bands. Right after finishing high school, he attended Sarah Lawrence College and took up photography and creative writing. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to finish his degree and left after a year, moving to Canada to continue his studies. This time he pursued religious studies at McGill University, and graduated in 2004. During his time in the university he met Regine Chassagne, who became a member of his band and later on his wife.
Before graduating, Butler together with Chassagne formed the band Arcade Fire in 2001. The two met when Chassagne was performing at an art exhibit, and soon they decided to team up and create music together. After a couple of years, they gathered more members including Jeremy Gara on the drums, Sarah Neufeld – violin, Richard Parry – bass, Tim Kingsbury – guitar, and his brother William Butler on keyboards.
The band formally released their debut album in 2005 entitled “Funeral”; their unique sound immediately captured the attention of many fans, and the album catapulted them to fame. They followed it up with “Neon Bible” in 2007 which became another chart-topper in various countries. The successful sales of their albums helped increase the net worth of Butler.
After three years, Arcade Fire released their third album “The Suburbs” in 2010. Once again, the album topped the charts in various countries, and even received the Album of the Year Awards in the 2011 Grammy’s. Their latest album “Reflektor” was released in 2013 and continued to wow the fans. The continued success of their albums also helped increase their wealth.
Butler never forgot his love for basketball despite succeeding as a musician. He still participates in various charity basketball events like “Rock the Court” in 2011, and most recently in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game in 2015. He even took home the Most Valuable Player award of the said event.
In terms of his personal life, Butler has been married to band member Regine Chassagne since 2003, and they have one son whom they welcomed in 2013.

Win Butler Quotes
- A lot of people get really stuck in this idea that everything’s been done and there’s nowhere left to go. Rock ‘n’ roll is almost the most conservative form of performance art: you play your guitar, these are the moves, this is what the songs are about, and this is the energy. I always felt like there’s so many sounds to make and things to talk about in songs. There’s more to life than ‘I love you baby, la, la, la’. I approach it more like filmmaking: you would never say every film has been made. You just tell another story.
- [Defining his Arcade Fire philosophy] I was really sick of bands just ignoring the audience as a posture in rock music. And I think we fed off each other in terms of trying to engage the audience, not in a hammy way, but actually trying to be aware of the space that you are playing in and trying to connect in some way through the music.
