Wendy Williams Wiki Biography
Wendy Williams is an African-American actress, TV and radio personality, born on 18 July 1964 in Asbury Park, New Jersey. She is best recognized as the host of the TV program “The Wendy Williams Show”, which first went to air in 2008, but she actually began her career on radio in the US Virgin Islands in the late 1980s.
So just how rich is Wendy Williams, as of early 2017? Authoritative sources estimate that Wendy’s net worth now reaches over $80 million, which is unsurprising as in 2013 Williams’ salary for one season of “The Wendy Williams Show” was $8 million, and presumably other yearly income is similar.
Wendy attended Ocean Township High School, and later Northeastern University in Boston, studying communications and graduating with a BA degree. Her career actually began on the college radio, where she was a DJ, so she soon got her first job at WVIS radio station in the Virgin Islands. In 1989 Williams began working as a DJ on the WRKS radio station in New York, and gained prominence when she was promoted and became a host of the morning show, quickly becoming one of the most popular DJs. The show focused mainly on celebrities, and Wendy’s task was to reveal unflattering details about the private lives of various famous people, for which Williams was rewarded as the Best On-Air Radio Personality, a title which certainly helped her career, and contributed to an increase in her net worth.
From 1994 to ’98, Wendy worked at Hot 97 urban station in New York. When Williams was fired, she took another radio job at the Philadelphia station WUSL, significantly raising the station’s profile, before returning to New York and WBLS, to an afternoon slot which was eventually syndicated around the country, and brought her to the next step in her career.
In 2008 Wendy began appearing on TV – subsequently Fox – on “The Wendy Williams Show”, in a similar vein to her previous radio program, and which continues to this day. Wendy became known for quarrels with a number of celebrities; she has criticized plenty on her talk show, for instance Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, Will Smith, usually because the facts that she gives out about such people are not necessarily true; ironically, this is one reason why the show became very popular, and Wendy Williams extremely famous in the entertainment business. In addition, it also added considerably to Williams’ net worth.
Wendy Williams is also an actress, who has starred in a number of television films, including “Think Like a Man” in 2012 and its sequel “Think Like a Man 2” two years later. Inevitably perhaps, Wendy also appeared in the 2011 season of “Dancing with the Stars”.
She is also the owner of the production company “Wendy Williams Productions”, and is a writer too, having written three non-fiction and four fiction books – “The Wendy Williams Experience” and “Wendy’s Got The Heat” were bestsellers, so Williams became richer still.
Moreover, Wendy also sells a line of jewelry products – entitled “Adorn by Wendy Williams” – on the home shopping network QVC. The profit coming from this activity also adds to Williams net worth. Wendy Williams is clearly a busy, hard-working woman, who has tried and made her luck in several fields.
In her personal life, in 1999 she married Kevin Hunter and together they have a son. They all still reside in New York City.
