Wendy debuted as an actress in 2001, in the short comical drama “Henry and Marvin”, while in 2002 she joined The Groundlings comedy troupe in Los Angeles, California, with which she toured the country and honed her acting including her improvisational skills. In 2003 she was cast for the role of Deputy Clementine Johnson in Comedy Central’s TV series “Reno 911!” which she reprised through its following seasons ’til 2008, as well as in its spin-off series “Reno 911!: Miami”. This role not only provided the basis for Wendi McLendon-Covey’s net worth, but also earned her a huge dose of popularity, helping her to establish herself as a prominent comedian and an actress.

In 2005, Wendy appeared in the comedy movie “Bewitched” opposite Well Ferrell and Nicole Kidman in the leading roles, while in 2006 she was cast for the role of Lydia Mayhew in Lifetime TV’s sitcom series “Lovespring International”. In 2010 she played the role of Liz in the ABC’s sitcom “Rules of Engagement”, which she occasionally reprised ’til 2013. In 2011 she appeared in the role of Vice Principal in one episode of “Cougar Town”, before the real breakthrough in her career occurred later that year, when she was cast as Rita in Paul Feig’s romantic comedy “Bridesmaids”. This was followed by an appearance in another romantic comedy, 2012’s “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”, and the memorable role of Beverly Goldberg in “The Goldbergs” TV series, in which she continues to play. Wendi McLendon-Covey Quotes

  • On young actresses and the pressure to be thin: “Well, first you have to ask yourself if you want to be the kind of actress who’s interesting, or the kind of actress who’s meant to play the pretty-but-uninteresting wife of a chubby guy on a network sitcom. If you want to play the good roles, spend more time in in college and in acting class than you do in the gym, and you’ll have the career you want. Talent always wins out in the long run.”
  • As a performer, you can’t just sit around waiting for the phone to ring. You have to write and develop projects for yourself, because casting people aren’t always going to see you the way you want to be seen. Write a one-person show, shoot a short film, do plays, whatever – activity breeds activity. No one’s interested in a stay-at-home actress.
