Éva Gábor Wiki Biography
Eva Gabor was born on the 11th February 1919, in Budapest, Hungary, and was an actress, perhaps still best known to the world for playing Lisa Douglas in the TV series “Green Acres” from 1965 to 1971. Her career was active from the 1940s until 1994. She passed away in July 1995.
Have you ever wondered how rich Eva Gabor was, at the time of her death? According to sources, her net worth was estimated at $30 million, earned through her successful career in the entertainment industry as an actress, during which she appeared in more than 80 film and TV titles.
Born the youngest of three daughter of Vilmos Gabor and his wife Jolie, real name Janka Tilleman, Eva grew up in her hometown with sisters Zsa Zsa and Magda, but managed to emigrate to the USA after marrying Swedish osteopath Eric Valdemar Drimmer in 1939.
After settling in USA, Eva started to pursue an acting career, and made her debut in 1941 in the film “Forced Landing”. She started slowly building her career with the roles in “pacific Blackout” (1941), “The Wife Of Monte Cristo” (1946), and “Song Of Surrender” (1949). In the 1950s, she featured in several blockbuster films including “The Last Time I Saw Paris” (1954) with Elizabeth Taylor in the lead role, and “Artists and Models” (1955), starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Also she starred in the film “Gigi” (1958), and appeared in “My Man Godfrey” (1957), “Don`t Go Near The Water” (1957), and “It started With A Kiss” (1958). Her net worth rose steadily.
In the 1960s, her career reached its peak. She appeared in the film “A New Kind Of Love” (1963), with Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, and “Youngblood Hawke” (1964), and was then cast in the role of Lisa Douglas; her character firstly appeared in the TV series “Petticoat Junction” (1965-1969), and then in “Green Acres” (1965-1971), as the lead character alongside Eddie Albert. The show popularized her as an actress, but also increased her net worth by a large margin.
After the show ended, Eva focused more on voice acting, lending her voice to characters from such animated shows as “The Rescuers” (1977), its sequel “The Rescuers Down Under” (1990) and “Nutcracker Fantasy” (1979). She also stayed active in front of the cameras, making appearances in “Almost Heaven” (1978), before the 1970s ended. She wasn`t very active during the 1980s as an actress, but served as a panelist on the show “Match Game”, and “Match Game Hollywood Squares Hour” (1983-1984). In 1987 she returned to acting with a role in “The Princess Academy”, and in 1990 she once again portrayed Lisa Douglas in “Return To Green Acres”, before appearing in the TV series “Dream On” (1991), and “Burke`s Law” (1994).
She also appeared on stage several times, which also increased her net worth. Some of her stage credits include “The Happy Time” (1950-1951), “Present Laughter” (1958), and “You Can`t Take It With You” (1983).
Thanks to her successful career, Eva received a Star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in 1984, for her contribution to television. Also, she was nominated for the Golden Laurel in the category Top Female Comedy Performance for her work in the film “Don`t Go Near The Water”(1957).Regarding her personal life, Eva was married five times, but didn`t have any children. Her first husband was Eric Valdemar.
Drimmer(1937-42); apparently Eva divorced because he didn`t want any children. Her second husband was Charles Isaacs(1943-49). Her third marriage to John Elber Williams lasted only a year, 1956-57. In 1959 Eva married Richard Brown, and they divorced after 14 years. The same year she married Frank Gard Jameson Sr., and she became stepmother to his four children. The couple divorced in 1983.
Eva died on 4th July 1995 from respiratory failure and pneumonia after a fall in a bathtub, while being on vacation in Mexico.
