Ty Monroe Murray was born on the 11th October 1969, in Phoenix, Arizona USA, and is best known for being a rodeo cowboy and performer, who has won nine World Championships. He is recognized as the co-founder of the Professional Bull Riders organization, (PBR), of which he has been a board member since 2014. His professional career began in 1987. He is also known by nicknames “Superman in Boots” and “The King of the Cowboys”.
Have you ever wondered how rich is Ty Murray as of 2017? According to sources, it is estimated that Ty Murray’s overall net worth is over $15 million, an amount acquired through his career in the sports industry.
Ty Murray is the son of Joy Murray and his wife Butch and was raised with two sisters. His father is a retired rodeo hand, while his mother was a young rider in the National Little Britches Rodeo Association, thus he started riding at a very young age. Later, he was trained by Larry Mahan, a world champion bull rider, who was considered a star by winning more National Finals Rodeo (NFR) awards than anyone other. As a nine-years-old boy, Ty was asked by a teacher to write an essay on what he wanted to be when he grew up, and his answer was that he wanted to beat Larry Mahan’s record.
Murray attended Arizona High School and later Odessa College. While in high school, Ty competed in the Arizona High School Rodeo Association, becoming the All-Around Champion Cowboy, and he also led Arizona to its first National Association Rodeo Championship in 1987, which marked the beginning of his professional career. While in high school, Ty also became the National All-Around Champion, as he competed in rough-stock events and also cutting.
After he finished high school, Ty enrolled the Odessa College where he continued with bull riding, becoming the youngest ever PRCA All-Around Rodeo Cowboy, at the age of 18. From 1989 until 1995, Ty was the dominant cowboy in the PRCA, winning the World All-Around Rodeo Champion title six years in a row, and Ty also won the PRCA World Bull Riding Championship title in 1993. In 1995, he suffered a terrible injury, tearing posterior cruciate ligaments, first in his right knee and later in his left. He returned the next year but suffered another injury which kept him out for another year. He tried to return in 1997, but then Ty broke his shoulder at an event held in St. Louis, Missouri, which again saw him off for a year.
However, in 1998, Ty returned stronger than ever, winning the World All-Around Rodeo Champion title and setting a record of seven titles, and he also won the PRCA World Bull Riding Championship title that year, making it his second, increasing further his net worth.
In 1992, Ty and several other bull riders decided to form a professional bull riding organization, “PBR”, which operates today. Ty is also competing in the PBR, reaching finals on several occasions, but never winning the title.
Thanks to his successful career, his name also became recognized in the entertainment world, securing him several appearances in TV series and films, such as “Walker, Texas Ranger” in 1999, “CSI” (2008), “Fast Cars And Superstars: The Gillete Young Guns Celebrity Race” (2007). Furthermore, Ty was a participant in the highly popular show “Dancing With The Stars”, with professional dancer Chelsie Hightower – he was supposed to join with his wife Jewel, however, she suffered an injury and was unable to compete. He and Chelsie were eliminated in the semifinals, however, this appearance certainly increased his net worth.
When it comes to his personal life, Ty Murray was married to Jewel Kilcher, an R’n’B singer, from August of 2008 to July 2014; the couple has one child.
