Born Anthony Bryan Hayward on the 21st May 1957, in Slough, Berkshire, England, and is a businessman, best known to the world as the former chief executive of British Petroleum, a position he held from 2007 to 2010, and since 2011 chairman of General Energy, which is an oil company formed in 2011 by merging Genel Enerji and Hayward’s own firm Vallares.

Have you ever wondered how rich Tony Hayward is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources it has been estimated that Hayward’s net worth is as high as $40 million, an amount earned largely through his successful career in the oil industry.

Tony is the son of Bryan Hayward and his wife Mary. Although born in Slough, Berkshire, he moved frequently throughout his childhood, and then when he was 15 years old, Tony moved in with his grandparents in Langley, and lived with them until he was old enough for university. He studied geology at Aston University, and then continued at the University of Edinburgh, from which he obtained a PhD in geology.

His career started in 1982 when he joined BP as a rig geologist in Aberdeen, and gradually started building his name in the firm, by overseeing operations in London, France, Glasgow and China as well. He soon came to the attention of Lord Browne, and became his executive assistant. In 1992 he was sent to Columbia to serve as exploration manager, then also becoming BP’s president of operations in Venezuela in 1995. Two years later he was brought back to London and appointed as a director of BP Exploration. Tony continued his rise in the firm, and was moved sideways to BP Amoco Exploration and Production and promoted to group vice president, and serving on the BP group’s Upstream executive committee.

Further on, in 2000 he became BP group treasurer, which only increased his net worth, while in 2003 he was promoted again to chief executive of exploration and production. Lord Browne’s successor, Hayward wasn’t initially in plans to become the new chairman, however, thanks to his hard work and business ideas, he rose to prominence and on the 1st May 2007 he became chief executive of BP group, serving until 27th July 2010. During his stint as chief executive, his salary exceeded $1 million per year, which considerably boosted his wealth. Unfortunately, his reign came to an end due to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in April 2010. In the explosion 11 people lost their lives, and it was also regarded as a catastrophe for the ocean floor, with barrels and barrels of oils being spilled.

Despite the disaster, Tony continued with his career in the oil business, merging his venture firm Vallares, with Turkey based oil firm General Eneji, and in that way creating Genel Energy, and since 2011 serves as its chairman. Furthermore, Tony is chairman at UK-based gas-to-liquids company CompactGTL, which also adds to his wealth.

Regarding his personal life, Tony was married to Maureen Fulton from 1985 until 2012; the couple has two children together, Kieran and Tara. He currently resides in Kent, near London.
