Tom Oar Wiki Biography

Tom Oar was born in Illinois, USA in the early 1940s, and is a former rodeo star, tanner, and reality television personality, best known for being part of the History channel reality series entitled “Mountain Men”, since it started airing in 2012. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Tom Oar? As of late-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $200,000, mostly earned through success in reality television, but he’s also considered one of the most respected tanners in the country. During his youth, he was also active on the rodeo circuit. As he continues his endeavors, even at 70+ years of age, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.

Tom started getting involved in the rodeo circuit from a very young age – his father, Chike was heavily involved in rodeo which led to him pursuing the same field. He took care of livestock, did bull riding and roping, and was also a pick-up man. However, the job was dangerous and soon his health began to deteriorate. He received permanent damage to his legs due to the dangers of the career, so he eventually left and focused on working as a tanner, although he stayed in rodeo longer than his father and brother who were also part of the rodeo circuit. He actually rode bulls for more than 18 years and broncos for more than 25. Most of his tanning skills have been self-taught, and soon his popularity would increase as well as his net worth, especially with the fur industry starting to wane, and the demand for tanners also starting to increase, and this would eventually lead him to become a part of “Mountain Men”.

The “Mountain Men” series follows a group of people who live off the land in remote areas of the US. Oar was introduced to the show through a friend, and then started being featured living near the Yaak River in north-western Montana. The series shows his struggles and efforts to prepare for a seven month winter season, along with his family and neighbors. Other cast members of the show include Eustace Conway, Marty Meierotto, Rich Lewis, George Michaud, Charlie Tucker, Kyle Bell, and Morgan Beasley, who are from various places around the US. Oar has been heavily featured since the first season in 2012 and up to its latest season in 2017, and so has appeared in a total of 69 episodes of the show, in which he’s seen trapping animals and working at his tanning craft. Since appearing in the show, his tanning business has  boomed, and according to him he even has difficulty keeping up with the number of orders he receives now. His net worth has increased significantly thanks to the success of “Mountain Men” and the effect on his other business.

For his personal life, it is known that Tom has been married to Nancy for more than 20 years; they’ve known each other since the latter part of Tom’s rodeo career, and the two initially lived together for 17 years without any running water or electricity. They have a dog, and are often all seen together in “Mountain Men”, but are are still based in a relatively remote part of Montana.
