Tim Westwood Wiki Biography
Tim Westwood was born on 3 October 1957, in Lowestoft, Suffolk, England, and is a radio presenter, television presenter, and DJ, best known for being the host of the UK version of “Pimp My Ride”. He’s worked with BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 1 Xtra and Capital Radio, and all of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Tim Westwood? As of early-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $13 million, mostly earned through success on radio and television. He is referred to by numerous artists and DJs simply as Westwood. He’s held numerous shows and as he continues a career which began in 1980, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.
Westwood started his career as a DJ for several radio stations; he helped form Kiss FM and is the co-owner of the station, and was also a DJ for LWR in the 1980s. In 1987, he became part of the mainstream station Capital FM, then seven years later, after a shakeup of Radio 1 he was given the “Rap Show”. He became the presenter of the show and so has become one of the longest serving broadcasters on Radio 1. He originally worked as a Pirate DJ and would then become a guest at the program “Meridian” which he discussed London’s hip hop culture. He made an appearance in the BBC documentary “Bad Meaning Good” which took a look at the early work of his company Justice Entertainment. He continued getting exposure through both radio and television, appearing on “Night Network” which was produced by London Weekend Television.
Thanks to his popularity, he was often mentioned on rap records. His net worth was starting to increase, partly because he was the only well-known DJ in Britain that played hip hop on legal radio. He was named three times as Best UK Radio DJ in the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards. He hosted the Capital FM “Rap Show” until 1994 when he would leave the station. He then joined Radio 1 and hosted the first national rap show in the UK. He also hosted a weekday drive time show at BBC before getting replaced in 2012. He stayed with BBC for nearly 20 years before leaving the company to rejoin Capital FM. He now works as part of Capital Xtra.
Tim also has an official YouTube channel named Tim Westwood TV which has over 230,000 subscribers; other popular artists can be seen on the channel including Will Smith, Nicki Minaj, and Eminem.Westwood has received some criticism during the course of his career; in 2006, he was accused of encouraging knife and gun crime by Prime Minister David Cameron. Other critics have also pointed at Tim’s Black British pronunciation which is said to be opposed to his middle class origin. He’s also been accused of giving false statements about his age and background to the media.
For his personal life, despite his public profile, only rumours suggest that Tim is married with two children. Tim was injured in a drive-by shooting in 1999. According to reports, gunmen on a motorbike approached his car and shot him. Aside from this, Sacha Baron Cohen has stated that his Ali G character was inspired by Westwood.
