Tim Gunn Wiki Biography
Timothy MacKenzie Gunn was born on the 29th July 1953, in Washington DC USA, and is best known under the shortened name, Tim Gunn, as a television personality, fashion consult and and also an actor, famous for his work as a mentor to the designers on the reality program Project Runway. He is also the chief creative officer for the renowned fashion designer Liz Claiborne.
Have you ever wondered how rich Tim Gunn is? According to sources, it is estimated that Tim Gunn`s net worth is $15 million, an amount he has earned mostly through his involvement in the fashion industry, however, his acting skills have also helped add to his net worth, as he has featured in a number of TV series and films such as “How I Met Your Mother”, and “The Smurfs”.
Tim`s father, George William Gunn was an FBI agent, under the reign of J. Edgar Hoover, and his mother Nancy, a housewife. While in high school, Tim was a champion swimmer, but then enrolled at the Corcoran College of Art and Design, from which he acquired a BFA in Sculpture.
His professional career really began in 1982, when he joined the Parsons New School Of Design, and after few years became the associate dean. He stayed on that position for 11 years, until he was promoted to the position of Chairman in 2000, which increased his net worth to a large degree. Seven years later he left Parsons as he accepted the offer to become the chief creative officer for Liz Claiborne, further increasing his net worth, and he is still on that position.
Regarding his career on TV, it began in 2004, appearing as an on-air mentor to the designer on the “Project Runway”. His popularity grew with every episode, and he stayed with the show for all 14 seasons; thanks to his work on “Project Runway”, Tim won the Primetime Emmy Award in 2013 for Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Reality Competition Program.
Tim has also made a number of TV appearances, debuting in the TV series “Ugly Betty” in 2007 as Fashion TV Reporter. In 2010, Tim appeared as himself in the TV series “How I Met Your Mother”, as Barney`s personal tailor, and in 2011 he made his debut appearance as Henri on the big screen in the film “The Smurfs”. Furthermore, he was cast in the film “Teen Spirit” in 2011, as Supervisor J-3.
In 2012, his net worth gained a further boost, when he was chosen to voice the character Baileywick in the animated film “Sofia The First: Once Upon A Princess”, which later became the animated TV series “Sofia The First”, and in which Tim was also featured as a voice actor.
Tim is also an author: his first book was published in 2007, entitled “A Guide to Quality, Taste and Style”, which he co-wrote with Kate Moloney. In 2015 he published another book, entitled “The Natty Professor: A Master Class on Mentoring, Motivating, and Making It Work!”, which has also added to his net worth.
Regarding his personal life, Tim tried to commit suicide when he was 17 years old by swallowing 100 pills, because he is gay, but raised in strongly homophobic family. He denied his sexual orientation until his 20s, but admitted to his sister when he was 29.
During the 1980s, he was in a relationship with another man, however, that relationship didn`t have a happy end, which had a huge effect on Tim, as apparently he hasn`t been romantically involved with anyone else since then. He currently resides in Manhattan.
