Tilman Valentin Schweiger Wiki Biography
Tilman Valentine Schweiger was born on 19 December 1963, in Freiburg, (then) West Germany, and is a producer, director and actor, best known for running the production company Barefoot Films located in Berlin. He’s been active in the industry since 1989, and all of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Til Schweiger? As of mid-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $20 million, mostly earned through a successful career in films and on television. Some of his projects include “Atomic Blonde”, “Inglorious Basterds”, and “King Arthur”, and several television series. As he continues his career, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.
Til attended high school in Heuchelheim, and after matriculating enrolled at Der Keller in Cologne, taking acting lessons and graduating in 1989, then pursuing a career in the film industry.
Schweiger made his first appearance as an actor in the television series “Lindenstrabe” in 1989, and two years later would get his first film role in “Manta, Manta”. More opportunities opened up for him, including in “Mannerperson”, “Bastard” and “Was tun, wenn’s brennt”. After appearing in several films and television series, Schweiger would make his debut as a producer with 1997’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door”, and also his directorial debut there though it was uncredited – the title is based on the Bob Dylan song of the same name. He then worked as the producer and director of “Der Eisbar”, and the following year he would write, direct and star in the film “Barfuss”, which would win him a Bambi Award. He continued this streak with another Bambi win for being the lead in “Traumschiff Surprise – Periode 1”, before in 2007 producing and directing the most successful film in Germany – “Keinohrhasen” – which took a lot of money at the box office, and increased his net worth significantly. The film won several awards including a Jupiter Award, German Comedy Award, two DIVA Awards, and a Bavarian Film Award, and led to the sequel – “Zweiohrkuken” – which also found success at the box office. Afterwards, he produced and starred in “1 ½ Knights – In Search of the Ravishing Princess Herzelinde”, which became a huge hit in 2008.
In 2011, Til released “Kokowaah” starring his daughter, which he produced, directed and co-wrote; they would reprise their roles in the sequel “Kokowaah 2” released two years later. He also made another film – “Schutzengel” – which featured another daughter. Aside from his work in German films, he’s also had several supporting roles in American films, including such popular films as “King Arthur”, “Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life” and Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Basterds” playing Hugo Stiglitz. In 2012, he was cast in “This Means War” alongside Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon, certainly adding to his net worth.
A few of his latest projects include “The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman” and “Muppets Most Wanted”, thanks to which his net worth increased even more.
For his personal life, it is known that Schweiger married model Dana Carlsen in 1995 and they have three daughters and a son. However, they separated in 2005 and divorced in 2014.

Tilman Valentin Schweiger Important Facts
- Because of Schweiger’s very real disdain for all things Nazi, he accepted a role in Inglorious Basterds (in which he wears a Nazi uniform in several scenes) only after finding out that his character gets to kill Nazi soldiers throughout the film.
- He runs his own production company Barefoot Films in Berlin.
- Although being a box office hit in Germany, his movie Keinohrhasen (2007) wasn’t nominated for a German Film Award. The reason for this was that the German Film Academy didn’t accept watermarked DVDs for the jury. But Warner Bros. does not distribute copies to juries without anti-piracy measures. Thus, he angrily left the German Film Academy, but finally decided to re-enter some weeks later (2008).
- His parents, Herbert Schweiger and Monika Schweiger, both were teachers.
- Attended acting lessons at “Der Keller” in Cologne and graduated in 1989.
- After the separation from his wife Dana, he moved to Berlin (2006).
- First non-Polish actor who received the Best Actor Award at the Polish Film Festival (1998) for his role in Bandyta (1997).
- Lives in Berlin, Germany (2007).
- Turned down the role of the German soldier, who shoots Tom Hanks’s character (Captain John H. Miller) in Saving Private Ryan (1998) because he had reservations about the role’s effect on his image at the American audience.
- After studying German at the university for two years to become a teacher, he attended acting lessons at a drama school in Cologne.
- He and his wife Dana Schweiger have 4 children: Valentin Schweiger (b. 17 September 1995), Luna Schweiger (b. 11 January 1997), Lilli Schweiger (b. 17 July 1998) and Emma Schweiger (b. 26 October 2002).
