Theresa Russell Wiki Biography
Theresa Lynn Russell was born on the 20th March 1957, in San Diego, California USA, and is a film and television actress, and former child model, best known for her roles in independent films, and collaborations with the director Nicholas Roeg who she also married. Her career began in 1976, when she played Cecilia Bradley in “The Last Tycoon”.
Have you ever wondered how rich Theresa Russell is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Russell’s net worth is as high as $5 million, an amount earned largely through her successful career in acting.
Theresa Russell was the eldest daughter of Carole Platt and Jerry Russell Paup; she was raised in Burbank, where her mother moved after their divorce, where she attended Burbank High School, but left before graduation to pursue a modeling and acting career. Her family was poor, and survived on food stamps, which is why Russell started to model at the age of twelve. She later enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Institute, where she studied acting.
Russell’s big break came at the age of nineteen, when she was cast in a drama film by the veteran director Elia Kazan, “The Last Tycoon” (1976), an adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s last novel, starring Robert De Niro, Tony Curtis, Robert Mitchum, and Jack Nicholson. It was nominated for several awards, including an Academy Award for Best Art Director. Her next role was another star-studded vehicle, the crime drama film “Straight Time” (1978) in which her co-stars were Dustin Hoffman, Gary Busey, and Kathy Bates. The beginning of the 1980s also marked the beginning of her long-term cooperation with the director Nichols Roeg, with whom she made six films in total: “Bad Timing” (1980), “Eureka” (1983), “Insignificance” (1985), “Aria” (1987), “Track 29” (1988), and “Cold Heaven” (1991). Throughout their collaboration, Russell was almost unanimously praised for her acting abilities, while the movies themselves were divisive, and more often than not critically panned.
Despite the lukewarm reception of these films, Russell went on to star in several successful films, which were better suited to her talent. One of them was “Black Widow” (1987), a film noir thriller film, which co-starred Debra Winger and garnered much critical praise. She also portrayed Liz in another controversial, but better received, entry “Whore” (1991), directed by Ken Russell.
Despite the positive reception which her acting received, Russell’s first box office hit came in 1998, with the erotic thriller “Wild Things”, starring Matt Dillon, Neve Campbell, Kevin Bacon, and Denise Richards, boosting her net worth too.
For the most part, Russell’s career was focused on the big screen, with few ventures into television films during the 1990s. However, she dedicated more of her time to television roles after the turn of the century. First, she guest-starred in two episodes of the police drama “Nash Bridges” (2000), after which she also nabbed the main role in the short-lived horror/mystery series “Glory Days” (2002). A significant television role for Russell came in 2005, when she appeared in the award-winning miniseries “Empire Falls”, along with Ed Harris, Helen Hunt, and Paul Newman. However, she also continued to act in independent films, such as he 2002 romance “Now & Forever”, and 2003 film noir “The Box”. Additionally, she joined the cast of the superhero blockbuster film “Spider-Man 3” (2007), playing the wife of one of the main villains, Sandman (played by Thomas Hayden Church).
Regarding her personal life, Theresa has two children with film director Nicolas Roeg, who she married in 1982. The couple later divorced, however there is no specified date in the media.

Theresa Russell Quotes
- Sometimes I get nice parts in what you might call nice movies, and I want to do them, but I’m not able because of the time slot needed to make the movie. I’ve been away from my husband and children too long.
- On mothering: Being a mother is my most important role in life.
- Because of being in Hollywood’s backyard, there were little girls when I was growing up going, ‘Oooh, I just did a commercial!’ and I just wanted to slap them, they were so pretentious and horrible.
