Terri Raines Wiki Biography

Theresa Penelope Raines was born on 20 July 1964, in Eugene, Oregon, USA. Better known as Terri Irwin, she is an American-Australian naturalist, TV personality, author, and zoo owner and popularly known as widow of “The Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin.

So how rich is Terri Irwin? According to sources, she has an estimated net worth of $5 million as of early 2016, which she amassed from several wildlife documentary series, many alongside her late husband, as well as her writing career.

Terri is the youngest daughter of Clarence and Judy and has two sisters. Her family worked in the trucking business which enabled her father to rescue injured animals he found while on the road. Because of this, she developed a passion for helping animals at an early age. She joined the family business, but her love for animals did not disappear, and in 1986, she worked part-time as at an emergency veterinary hospital and founded a rehabilitation facility she named “Cougar Country”, which aimed to rehabilitate and release animals such as foxes, bobcats, raccoons, bears and cougars into their natural habitat. Soon the facility was handling up to 300 animals each year.

From the early ’90s, her net worth increased considerably from filming wildlife documentary series alongside her husband Steve Irwin. Their series “The Crocodile Hunter” was shown on the Animal Planet and showed Steve’s knack for handling dangerous animals. The show became a worldwide success, which led to spinoffs such as “The Crocodile Hunter Diaries” and “Croc Diaries”. After her husband’s death, she hosted “Planet’s Best with Terri and Bindi” with her daughter Bindi. In addition, Bindi also starred in her own show “Bindi: The Jungle Girl for Discovery Kids”. Her family’s documentaries have reached over 300 episodes and were televised in 142 countries, watched by 500 million viewers. She has also published a book with two different titles, “Steve & Me” and “My Steve” in 2007, dedicated to her late husband.

Terri has been awarded an Honorary Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for her wildlife conservation efforts, as well as being named Ernst & Young Northern Region Social Entrepreneur of the Year in 2006, and rewarded with the Queensland Telstra Business Women’s Award in 2007. She has also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Queensland for her work and dedication to wildlife conservation. In addition, she was nominated for the Australian of the Year Awards for Queensland, and won the InStyle Australia Women of Style Environmental Award in 2014. She was also able to save the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve from strip mining for bauxite after seven years of campaigning. Her net worth is still growing.

In her personal life, Terri met Steve Irwin in 1991 while vacationing in Australia. They married in June 1992 in her hometown and moved to Australia to begin their work of filming wildlife documentaries. They have two children, Bindi, who was born in 1998, and Robert, born in 2003. In 2006, while filming an underwater documentary, Steve was killed after being pierced in the chest by a short-tail stingray barb in Queensland, Australia. During that time, Terri and their children were trekking in Cradle Mountain, Tasmania. A memorial service was held at the Australia Zoo in Queensland. She then became an Australian citizen a year later, partly as a tribute to Steve.
