Sway Calloway Wiki Biography
Sway Calloway, born on the 23rd of August 1970, is an American rapper, producer and host, popularly known as one half of the team Sway & King Tech, and a prominent reporter for MTV.So how much is Calloway’s net worth? As of early 2016, it is reported by sources to be $5 million, gained mostly from his albums, and television and radio shows.
Calloway grew up in Oakland, California and has always had a passion for performing. Calloway became a local celebrity on San Francisco’s Pier 39, known for being a rapper and battling in b-boy performances. After high school, he met DJ King Tech and they started to perform as a team in various clubs and events in their hometown.
The two started to release independent albums, until Giant Records noticed their work, and the discovery of the duo led to their album “Concrete Jungle” in 1990. The success of their first major album led to their new project: disc jockeys on their own radio program. Their show “The Wake Up Show” started broadcasting in the Bay area, and eventually made its way through the airwaves of San Francisco, Chicago and even in Los Angeles. The show features the newest songs, and also interviews famous and even up-and-coming celebrities and artists. Their net worth continued to rise.
The success of their radio show not only increased their net worth but also opened new doors of opportunities. Interscope Records approached the duo to work with them in releasing another album. In 1999, their second album “This or That” was released, featuring various hip hop artists including Eminem, Xzibit and RZA. The album was a success, gaining wide recognition.
In 2000, MTV reached out to Calloway to be part of their network as one of its correspondents. This career move increased Calloway’s popularity and net worth and also made him a prominent personality in the world of music. Calloway began hosting shows like “Total Request Live” and “Direct Affect”, and later on became one of MTV’s regular reporter in live events such as the MTV Video Music Awards.
However, in 2005, aside from the release of their third album “Back 2 Basics” under their own record label Bolo Entertainment, Calloway ended his contract with MTV without any plans of renewing it. However, in 2006 Calloway changed his mind and signed another contract with MTV under the condition that he would be able to produce and bring new projects to the network.
With his successful run in music and the popularity and influence of his shows on radio and television, Calloway’s fame and reputation grew, making him one of the most prominent icons in the industry. He was able to interview well known personalities from music icons like 50 Cent, Kanye West and Jay-Z to name a few and was also given the chance to interview many political leaders including Ed Gillespie, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Mitt Romney, Ron Paul and even US President Barack Obama.
Today, Calloway is the host of his own radio show “Sway in the Morning”. The program started in June of 2011, and airs Mondays through Fridays on SiriusXM channel 45.
In his personal life, Sway Calloway keeps most elements private, but cannot hide 16 year-old daughter Kayoni, although other details are mysterious.
