How rich is Steve Smith? Sources tell us that his net worth is estimated at $10 million as of early 2016, most of which can be traced back to a successful career playing professional football. He also has a few investments that help raise and maintain his wealth.
Steve started his football career when he attended the University High School in Los Angeles, playing both football and being involved in track and field. His performance and abilities were noticed as he became an All-Metro League Selection and an All-California Inter-scholastic Federation selection, and went on to break school and state.records. Smith then attended Santa Monica College and played for the Corsairs football team – he impressed many with his skills and earned a starting position playing with Chad Johnson, also a future NFL player. His coach motivated him to play in order to earn a scholarship for a higher division school. After two years in Santa Monica, he transferred to the University of Utah where he joined the Utah Utes football team. He set high records for Utah and after playing multiple all-star games, his performances earned the attention of NFL scouts. In 2001, he joined the NFL Draft, and became the 74th overall pick by the Carolina Panthers. His net worth had started to rise.
Smith played for the Carolina Panthers for 12 years from 2001 to 2013. He spent most of his rookie year as a kick and punt returner, scoring one touchdown during the opening game of the season. The Panthers’ season was lackluster, only having one win for the entire season. The following year he spent a lot of time in suspension because of altercations involving some of his teammates. He returned in 2003 with a better spirit, playing great offense and helping the Panthers reach the Superbowl, where despite his performance, the team would eventually lose to the New England Patriots. In 2004, he received a very severe leg injury that had him out for the year. He returned the following year to record one of his best seasons of his career, achieving what is called the Triple Crown in which he led the three different categories of offense of receiving yards, receptions and touchdowns for the season. The Panthers would reach the NFC championship but fall short against the Seattle Seahawks. He earned his first Pro Bowl appearance that year, with three overall career appearances. Playing with injuries and some altercations, Smith continued to play well for the Panthers until he was finally released in 2014.
Smith signed with the Baltimore Ravens from 2014 and continued to play well, but his age was finally catching up with him. Even with great performances, the Ravens lost to eventual champions the Patriots. He played a few games in 2015 but due to numerous injuries, he has informed the media that he may be retiring after the 2016 season.
Steve Smith is married to Angie, and they have four children, otherwise his personal life is kept mostly private. It is known that Steve spends a lot of time doing charity work and even travels to other countries to help. He’s been to evangelism missions and even donates shoes to those in need.
