Steve Howe Wiki Biography
Stephen James Howe was born on the 8th April 1947, in Holloway, London England, and is a musician, guitarist and songwriter, best known to the world for being the lead guitarist of the progressive rock band Yes. Also, he has started a number of his own bands, including GTR and Steve Howe Trio, with which he has also had a reasonable success.
Have you ever wondered how rich Steve Howe is, as of late 2016? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Steve`s net worth is as high as $10 million, an amount earned largely through his successful career as a musician.
Steve is one of four children, who grew up listening to the various genres of music, found in the parents` record collection, including such as Tennessee Ernie Ford. Also, Steve was influenced by classic guitar and jazz musicians, including Barney Kessel. He got his first guitar when he was 12 years old as a birthday present from his parents, started learning to play, and began to perform in local halls. His interest in music gradually grew as he was becoming older, and while attending Holloway School, where he was already a part of the local rock scene.
He was a member of the bands Tomorrow and Bodast, before he was invited by the members of Yes to replace Peter Banks. From then he became a major contributor and one of those most responsible for Yes` great success on the world`s music scene. Although he left and returned to band on two occasions, he still collaborated with the other members. He first worked on the 1971 “The Yes Album”, which achieved platinum status in the USA and silver in UK, and which increased his net worth. He stayed with the band until the early 1980s, and oversaw the releases of such successful albums as “Close to the Edge” (1972), which reached No. 4 on the UK charts, “Tales from Topographic Oceans” (1973), which topped the UK charts and reached gold status in both USA and UK, increasing further Howe`s net worth, and “Going for the One”, which also reached No. 1 on the UK charts. He then returned in 1988, and stayed until the release of “Union” in 1991, after which he again left the band.
Four years later, Steve again became a member of the band, and since then has worked on every album by the group. In 1997, the group released “Open Your Eyes”, but it didn`t anywhere near the success they had in the early `90s. However, the band has continued to work together and release albums such as “Magnification” (2001), “fly From Here” (2011), and ‘Heaven & Earth” (2014), but without any major success.
Apart from his career with Yes, Steve has also worked on its own and with other musicians, but he was the leader of those bands; his first solo album came out in 1975, entitled “Beginnings”, which was followed by the 1979 release “The Steve Howe Album”. His next album came years later; in 1991 he released “Turbulence”, and through the `90s he was quite active, releasing “Quantum Guitar” (1998), “Pulling Strings” (1999), and “Portraits of Bob Dylan” (1999), which only increased his net worth.
Steve remains active to the present day, and from 2000 until today he has released such successful albums as “Skyline” (2002), “Spectrum” (2005), “The Haunted Melody” (2008), “Travelling” (2010) and “Time” (2011), among others, which have added a substantial amount to his net worth.
Regarding his personal life, Steve has been married to Jan Howe since 1968; the couple has four children. Steve has been a vegetarian since the early `70s, and for him it is part of the practice of transcendental meditation.
