Stephen Marley Wiki Biography
Stephen Robert Nesta Marley, born on 20 April 1972, is an American-Jamaican singer and producer who became famous in the world of reggae music with his band Melody Makers with his siblings, and later on through his solo career.
So how much is Marley’s net worth? As of late 2016, based on authoritative sources, it is over $20 million, acquired from his years in the music industry.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Marley is the son of Rita Marley and the late reggae artist, Bob Marley. Even though he has plenty of siblings from both parents, they all grew up knowing each other, and his big family eventually became the starting point of his career.
With his father’s background and strong influence in music, Marley and his siblings were eventually introduced to the art as well. His career started at a young age when, together with his sisters Cedella and Sharon, and brother Ziggy, he recorded the song “Children Playing in the Streets”; written by his father, the song aimed to shine a light on the poor living conditions of children in their towns in Jamaica. The proceeds of the song were then given to the United Nations Children Fund to help the organization’s cause. Although the song was meant to help the charity, it also paved the way for Marley’s career and his siblings.
The four Marleys decided to form a band named Melody Makers and went on to record their first album in 1985 entitled “Play the Game Right”. Unfortunately the debut album failed to perform well in the charts, but it did start-off their professional career, and net worth.
Disregarding their first album’s performance, Marley and his siblings released their second album “Hey World” the following year, and it achieved success compared to the first one. The band then decided to change their name to Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, and also changed their music style to reach more fans. In 1988, they released their third album “Conscious Party” and it became a huge success, going on to win the band’s first Grammy Award and increasing their net worth. Their following albums including “One Bright Day” and “Babylon is Fallen” were also well-received by fans, and ended up winning awards. After the ‘90s the band decided to break-up and go their separate ways.
While on a break from the music industry, Marley worked in the background and helped his other brother, Damian, with his own album by becoming its producer. This move also increased his wealth.
In 2005, Marley went back to performing, and became a solo artist. Some of the albums he has released include “Got Milk?”, “Mind Control” and “Revalation Pt.1 – The Root of Life” that helped his net worth and also garnered him more Grammy Words.
Today, Marley is still active in the music industry. He recently released an album entitled “Revelation Pt. 2 – The Fruit of Life”.
In terms of his personal life, Marley was married to Kertia DeCosta-Marley and together they have 13 children.
