Sigurd Jonny Hansen Wiki Biography

Born as Sigurd Jonny Hansen on 28 April 1966 in Seattle, Washington State USA, into a family of Norwegian ancestry, Sig Hansen is an American captain of the fishing vessel called Northwestern. His work has been featured in the television series entitled ‘’Deadliest Catch’’.

So just how rich is Sig Hansen as of late 2017? According to authoritative sources, this American captain has net worth of $3 million and his wealth is accumulated from his career in the previously mentioned field. As he is featured on television, it is safe to say that Sig Hansen is a reality TV personality as well, and in addition he is the series’ producer. A portion of his net worth comes from the award he received from Discovery Channel for having the vessel with the most harvested king crabs and olio crabs – the prize was $250,000.

As he was born into a family with fishing tradition, Sig naturally pursued that career, following the path of his ancestors. When it comes to his education, he attended Shorewood High School, but reportedly began fishing at the age of 14, operating his family boat and spending 10 months annually onboard, on average. In addition to that, he would also fish mackerel and cod off Norway during summer. As the result of this, he cut his school and dedicated his time fully to his family’s business. He started off serving as a deckhand on his father’s boat, and at the age of 22, he moved forwards to become a ‘’relief skipper’’, which meant that Sig was relieving other captains on the Northwestern. Two years after that, he took over Northwestern and was working on it full time. With Hansen operating the boat, the injury and death rate came down, and it has been lower than on other boats that participate in the Bering Sea. Under Sig, Northwestern won the final derby seasons, taking home the titles for both the highest poundage caught and the highest amount of money earned between the featured boats in the ‘’The Deadliest Catch’’, the television series produced by Original Productions and broadcast on the Discovery Channel. It is focused on portraying the everyday lives fishing vessels in the Bering Sea during the Alaskan crabbing fishing seasons. It has won 16 Primetime Emmy awards to this date. Speaking about Hansen’s career on television, he worked on two documentary movies about ‘’The Deadliest Catch’’ in 2015 and 2016.

As well as appearing in a total of 170 episodes of the previously mentioned television show, Sig also played a significant role in its development, serving as a technical advisor and later on as a consultant. He is also a writer who published the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal bestseller, ‘’A Seafaring Family on Deadly Alaskan Waters’’.

In his private life, Sig has been married twice. From his first marriage with Lisa Eckstrom, he has one child, and from his second marriage, with June Hansen, Sig has two daughters, Nina and Mandy. He speaks Norwegian fluently. Sig’s efforts have been recognized and in 2014 he was inducted into the Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame. In 2016, he suffered a heart-attack, and this was recorded on the ‘’Deadliest Catch’’. However, having recovered, Hansen returned to the following season of the series.
