She is also recognized as a singer. Her career has been active since 1977.
So, have you ever wondered how rich Sheryl Lee Ralph is, as of mid- 2016? It has been estimated by authoritative sources that Sheryl’s net worth is over $5 million, which has been accumulated through her involvement in the entertainment industry not only as an actress, but also as a singer. Additional to this, she has appeared in a number of TV shows, which have also added to her wealth.
Sheryl Lee Ralph was born to fashion designer Ivy, and college professor Stanley Ralph, and spent her childhood time divided between Long Island, New York and Mandeville, Jamaica. She studied at Uniondale High School in Uniondale, New York, where she carried out her love for acting by starring in the school production – the musical “Oklahoma!”. Upon matriculation in 1972, she was also named Miss Black Teen-age New York. Later, she enrolled at Rutgers University, from which she graduated at the age of 19, the youngest female to ever graduate in the history of the school. While in college, she was rewarded with the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships by the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.
Sheryl’s professional acting career began in 1977, when she debuted in the film “A Piece Of The Action”, playing Barbara Hanley. Afterwards, she plated a number of small roles in TV series until 1986, when she was chosen for the role of Ginger St. James in the TV series “It’s A Living” (1986-1989), increasing her net worth by a large margin. Her breakout role came in 1989, when she starred in the film “The Mighty Quinn”.
During the next decade, Sheryl became more recognized as she appeared in bigger roles, such as “Mistress” (1992), alongside Robert De Niro, and “The Distinguished Gentleman” (1992), starring with Eddie Murphy. In the same year, she was selected for the role of Etienne Toussaint Bouvier in the TV series “Designing Women” (1992-1993), which was soon followed by another role in the TV series “Street Gear” (1995) playing Sarah Davis, and as Dee Mitchell in the TV series “Moesha” (1996-2001), all of which added to her net worth.
In the new millennium, she continued to line up success after success, as she appeared in the films “The Jennie Project” (2001), “Barbershop” (2005), and “The Cost Of Heaven” (2010) among others. To speak further of Sheryl’s accomplishments in the acting world, she featured in TV series such as “Ray Donovan” (2013-2014) in the role of Claudette, “Instant Mom” (2013-2015) playing Maggie Turner, and in “Criminal Minds” (2016) as Hayden Montgomery. Her net worth is certainly rising.
Apart from her successful career as an actress, Sheryl is also recognized as a singer, although only releasing one album, in 1984, under the name “In The Evening”, from which the title single reached No. 6 on the Billboard Dance Music/Club Play Singles, increasing further her net worth.
Thanks to her accomplishments in the entertainment industry, Sheryl was nominated for the 1982 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her work on the musical “Dreamgirls”.
Regarding her personal life, Sheryl Lee Ralph has been married to Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Hughes since 2005. She has two children from her previous 11-year marriage to art collector Eric Maurice, which ended in 2001.
