Shane McConkey was born on the 30th December 1969, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and was probably best recognized for being not only a professional ski racer, one of the most influential in the world, but also as a professional BASE jumper. His career was active from 1994 to 2009, when he passed away.

Nevertheless, his professional career in the sports industry continued in 1994, when he started competing as a ski racer at various free-skiing championships, and winning, including the South American Free-skiing Championship. In the following year, he became the US National Freeskiing Champion, and in the same year he started to combine skiing and BASE jumping.
