Shane Doan was born on 10 October 1976, in Halkirk, Alberta, Canada to Bernie and Bernice Doan. He is best known as a former professional ice hockey player in the National Hockey League (NHL).

Doan’s professional career began in 1992 when he signed a contract with the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League spending three seasons with the team. In the 1994-95 season he scored 94 points, assisting in winning in the Memorial Cup, and his efforts were rewarded with the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy.
Shortly afterwards, Doan was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the 1995 NHL Draft, and in his first season for the Jets, Doan scored 17 points. His final game as a member of the Jets took place on 12 April 1996, where he scored a game winning goal against the Los Angeles Kings in a 4-2 win, after which the Jets moved to Phoenix and were renamed into the Coyotes.

The 2011-12 season was the most successful for him to that date; the team finished in third place, winning the Western Conference and their first division title, and he scored 50 points. In September 2012 Shane signed a four-year deal with the Coyotes worth $21.2 million, significantly boosting his net worth. In the beginning of the 2014-15 season, he became the all time leader when it came to the games played with the Coyotes. In July 2016, he signed another contract extension, and became the longest serving NHL captain. He stay in the team for one more year, then announced his retirement after another successful season.
