Sean Mayor Wiki Biography

Sean Gregory May is a former professional basketball player, born on 4th April 1984 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He currently holds the position of assistant to the director of player development at the University of North Carolina.

Have you ever wondered how rich Sean May is? According to sources, it has been estimated that Sean May’s overall net worth is $3 million, acquired through a decade-long professional basketball career, during which he achieved several acknowledgements. Since he is still in basketball, his net worth continues to increase.

Although born in Chicago, May grew up in Bloomington, Indiana in a family of already noted basketball players. His father, Scott May, also played in the high school NCAA championship team and earned the Naismith Award in 1976, while his brother, Scott May Jr. played for the Indiana basketball team. While schooling at Bloomington High School North, Sean was a three-time all-state selection and played as the power forward. Although everyone expected him to stay in his hometown, May then decided to enroll at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he played as the starting center for two years. At the 2004 FIBA Americas U-20 Championship, May won a Gold Medal representing the US, and the same year, he was named USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year. In the following season, Sean was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2005 NCAA tournament, for his efforts in leading North Carolina to its fourth national championship, making Sean and his father one of only four father-son duos who both won an NCAA basketball championship.

He was selected by the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2005 NBA Draft, however, after a season in minor leagues, at the end of 2007 May had to undergo micro fracture surgery due to an injury on his right knee, which caused him to miss the entire 2007-08 NBA season. The surgery mad him physically unfit to play, and he was placed on the inactive list until further notice. May took advantage of this break to finish his studies, graduating from the University of North Carolina in August 2009 with a BA in African-American studies.

In 2009, May became an unrestricted free agent as he wasn’t wanted by any NBA team because of his injury-prone history, and subsequently signed successive contracts with several teams and companies, including the Turkish “Fenerbahce Ulker” (201-2011), Croatian “Zagreb”(2011), “Sutor Basket Montegranaro” in Italy (2012) and others. In November 2014, Sean signed with SPO Rouen Basket, but left only a month later to sign with French Orleans Loiret Basket for the rest of the season. When the season finished, May returned to the University of North Carolina, where he is now the assistant to the director of player development.

When it comes to his private life, Sean has been married to Grace Vargas since August 2010.
