Sanjaya Malakar Wiki Biography

Born as Sanjaya Joseph Malakar on the 10th September 1989 in Capitol Hill, Seattle USA, he is a singer, best known to the world as a finalist of the sixth season of the popular reality TV show “American Idol” (2007-2008), and has subsequently released three Eps, including “Life ~ Love ~ Music” in 2011.

Have you ever wondered how rich Sanjaya Malakar is, as of mid- 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Malakar’s net worth is as high as $300,000, an amount earned through his successful career as a musician, which started in 2007.

Sanjaya is the son of Bengali Indian immigrant Vasudeva Malakar, and Jilian Blyth, who has Italian, Dutch, English, and Irish ancestry. His parents divorce when he was three years old, and he went to live with his mother, who lived off welfare for some time, before she remarried, although unfortunately her husband died soon after the two married. Due to troubles that struck Sanjaya and the rest of his family, he often moved in his early childhood, living in California, and Kauai, Hawaii, where he became a part of the Hawaii Children’s Theater group, and then when he returned to Seattle, he was a member of the Total Experience Gospel Choir. He attended several high schools, including Shorecast High School, and Todd Beamer High School, and was in his sophomore year when he decided to take his GED. He passed the test, and switched his focus from education to a career in music.

In 2006 he appeared in the open audition for American Idol, alongside his sister. The both moved to the Hollywood round, but his sister was eliminated. As the show progressed, Sanjaya was receiving more and more affection from the public., which led him into the Top 7 round, despite judges’, especially Simon Cowell’s dissatisfaction. He was then eliminated, and the ratings of the show fell nine percent. He was brought back in the finale, singing “You Really Got Me”, with Joe Perry as a guitarist.

A whole new world opened for Sanjaya after Idol; he went on tour with other contestants, performing in more than 50 cities throughout the USA, and Canada as well, certainly helping to establish his net worth.

Due to his budding popularity, Sanjaya was interviewed by numerous publications, including TIME, Us Weekly, People and others, while he was also often called as guest to numerous shows, such as “The Today Show”, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, “The Early Show”, “Late Show with David Letterman” and many others, which only helped him in his early career.

Unfortunately, he has had little success in music; aside from American Idol releasing a CD with songs that he performed, he has released only two EPs, “Dancing to the Music in My Head” (2009), and “Life ~ Love ~ Music” to moderate success. He was also a part of the band The Brave Chandeliers, and is one of the singers on the new jazz standards album “Good Merlin” by The Chaz Lipp Groove Tripp, scheduled for release in June 2017.

Nevertheless, he has became a successful author; he published the autobiography “Dancing to the Music in My Head: Memoirs of the People’s Idol” in 2009, for which according to his statements, he received $100,000 in advance, which only increased his net worth.

He briefly worked as a bartender in 2012, after having little success as a musician, but since then has quit his day job, and has fully focused on music.

Regarding his personal life, little is known about Sanjaya’s most intimate details, as he tends to keep his life away from the public eyes.
