To begin with, the boy was raised in the Bronx, and was educated at New York City’s High School of Art and Design.Concerning his professional career, Orman began acting in local theatres in 1962 while still at college, including playing on Broadway, but subsequently divided his time between New York and New Orleans where in the mid-‘60s he was part of Free Southern Theater.

He began playing on television in 1974, starting with the movie “Willie Dynamite”. After that he played several roles in a variety of television series and films, including “Julius Caesar” (1979) and “Coriolanus” (1979). However, the best known role landed by Roscoe has been that of Gordon in the television series “Sesame Street”, appearing in over 100 episodes from 1974 to 2009; he was the third performer after Matt Robinson and Hal Miller, who embodied this role. His extended run clearly added consistently to his net worth.

In addition to this, Orman has also played in various movies, and spin-offs of “Sesame Street”, including “Sesame Street Home Video Visits the Firehouse” (1990), “Sesame Street: Three Bears and a New Baby” (2003), “Ready to School” (2007) and others. It is worth mentioning the fact that Orman portrayed Mr. Cameron in the television series “Law & Order” (2001 – 2004). The actor was also seen in the television series “Kojak in Manhattan” (1977) as well as “Sex & the City” (2002).

In 2006, Orman wrote an autobiography about his work in Sesame Street called “Sesame Street Dad: Evolution of An Actor”, and in 2007 he wrote a children’s book called “Ricky and Mobo”.
