Rodney Jerkins Wiki Biography
Rodney Jerkins, also known as Darkchild, was born on 29 July 1977, in Pleasantville, New Jersey USA. He is a music producer who is responsible for working with some of the music industry’s biggest names, and best-selling songs. The albums he produced have sold over 160 million copies worldwide, and has worked with artists like Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez. All his efforts in the music industry have built up his net worth.
How rich is Rodney Jerkins? Sources estimate that his net worth is at $30 million as of early 2016, mainly due to his recording deals and the amount of income he has earned as the producer of many hit songs. His contracts with different record companies and artists have also helped in this regard. He also has a few record labels under his name.
Rodney started his love for music at the young age of five when he began learning to play the piano. He made music with his brother and was influenced by gospel music, jazz and R&B. By age 14, he was noticed by Teddy Riley and was mentored on production and song writing. He eventually created a gospel rap album, and adopted the name Darkchild which he uses until today. EMI Music Corporation would then see his talent and offer him a contract to be a producer, which was the start of the increase of his net worth. Rodney started working with artists like Mary J. Blige and Brandy. He’d later find more names to produce for, such as Michael Jackson, The Black Eyed Peas, Spice Girls, Lady Gaga, The Pussycat Dolls, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Destiny’s Child, Beyoncé, among many more. He was recognized and was given a Grammy Award for producing Destiny’s Child hit single “Say My Name”. With the prestige and all the popular artists associated with his name, his career and wealth continued to grow with more opportunities. He is currently still producing music and is working with a lot of today’s popular artists.
Rodney also owns an independent gospel imprint named JoyFul Child Records, which he used to help his wife Joy Enriquez make her second album entitled “Atmosphere of Heaven”. He was also appointed as the Vice President of Artists & Repertoire for the Island Def Jam Group.
In 2008, he along with a few others created Music Mogul, Inc. They created a website MusicMogul.com which was a tie-in of social media and music, which allowed artists to connect with their fans and to give hopefuls a chance at having a career in music. One such songwriter, Keri Malena, was discovered on this website and now works with artists like Jamie Foxx.
Darkchild was also featured in the popular television show “American Idol” during its 10th season. He became a producer and mentor for the duration of the season and helped contestants, as well as show production.
In his personal life, Rodney Jerkins is married to singer Joy Enriquez(m. 2004) and they have four children. Their eldest daughter Heavenly Joy joined the 10th season of “America’s Got Talent”. Aside from Rodney and his wife’s music careers, they maintain a very private personal life.
