Robbie Glen Lawler Wiki Biography
Robert Glenn Lawler, born on the 20th of March, 1982, is an American mixed martial artist, best known as the title holder of the Welterweight Championship belt in the Ultimate Fighting Championship(UFC).
So how much is Lawler’s net worth? As of early 2016, it is reported by sources, to be $4 million, gained mostly from his long career as a professional mixed martial artist, and his product endorsements.
Born in San Diego, California USA, Lawler’s fascination with martial arts started at a very young age. After his parents separated, he moved to Bettendorf, Iowa with his father and brother, and under his brother’s influence, he became involved in several sports like basketball, football and baseball, and eventually he also learned Taekwondo. Later he attended Bettendorf High School and involved himself in wrestling and football.
When Lawler turned 16, he met Pat Miletich, a trainer who used to bring his students to Bettendorf High School during wrestling practice. Upon graduation, Lawler forewent college and joined Miletich’s training under Miletich Fighting Systems.
In 2001, Lawler officially joined UFC, winning against Aaron Riley in his first fight. He also defeated fighters Tiki Ghosn, Chris Lytle and Steve Berger and also experienced his first knockout with Nick Diaz. His early years in the UFC created a buzz in his career and also helped raise his net worth.
After his stint in UFC, Lawler also fought in various MMA organizations like SuperBrawl, defeating Falaniko Vitale, and also became an ICON Sport Middleweight Champion. He also joined PRIDE, defeating Joey Villasenor, and IFL, defeating Eduardo Pamplona. He fought in EliteXC and Strikeforce too, until he came back in UFC in 2013. His fights in these various organizations gave him great exposure in the MMA world and further improved his wealth.
In February 2013, he returned to UFC defeating Josh Koschech via TKO, after which he also defeated Bobby Voelker and Rory MacDonald. Although he was defeated by Johny Hendricks for the Welterweight Championship, he came back and defeated Jake Ellenberger and Matt Brown.
One of the highlights of Lawler’s career came in UFC 181, in a rematch and defeat of Johny Hendricks, claiming the title of UFC Welterweight Champion. He also made news when he defeated Rory Macdonald in July 2015, their fight considered to be a classic welterweight match; it was even named by Sherdog as Fight of the Year for 2015. He later defended the title against Carlos Condit, also earning him another Fight of the Night Award. His defense of the Welterweight Championship belt made him one of the most sought-after MMA fighters in the UFC, catapulting him to greater success and tremendously improving his net worth.
Today, Lawler is still active in the UFC, ranking as number seven in the official UFC pound-for-pound rankings. Lawler also maintains his wealth by endorsing sports apparel company Adidas.
In terms of his personal life, Lawler is married to Marcia Suzanne and together they have one son.
