Rob Manfred Wiki Biography

Robert D. Manfred was born on the 28th September 1958, in Rome, New York State, USA, and is a business executive and lawyer, but certainly best known for currently occupying the powerful position of Commissioner of Baseball, having formerly been the Chief Operating Officer of Major League Baseball. Manfred’s career started in 1980.

Have you ever wondered how rich Rob Manfred is, as of late 2016? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Manfred’s net worth is as high as $20 million, an amount earned through his successful career as a businessman. In addition to being the effective ‘head of baseball’, Manfred also works as a lawyer, which has also improved his wealth.

Rob Manfred grew up in upstate New York with an older sister and a younger brother and went to the Rome Free Academy, from where he matriculated in 1976. From 1976 to 1978, Manfred studied at Le Moyne College before he transferred to Cornell University, and from where he graduated in 1980, before subsequently attending and graduating from Harvard Law School in 1983 with his juris doctorate.

Soon after graduation, Ron started working as a clerk for Judge Joseph L. Tauro of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. However, Rob was more interested in a more ‘hands on’ position, and within a couple of years he was employed by and then became a partner in Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, with a focus on labor and employment law. During collective bargaining in 1987, Manfred began working with the Major League Baseball management, while during the 1994-95 strike, he worked as outside counsel for the owners of the constituent teams. Rob became the Executive Vice President of Economics and League Affairs in 1998, and had a significant part in negotiating the first drug testing agreement between the MLB and the baseball players association.

Manfred quickly moved on up the MLB management ladder, and at the end of the 2013 season, the Commissioner of Baseball Bud Selig promoted Rob to the position of MLB’s chief operating officer. In August 2014, the owners selected Manfred to be the new Commissioner of Baseball, beating off challenges from MLB executive vice president of business Tim Brosnan and Boston Red Sox chairman Tom Werner for the position.

Rob assumed office in January 2015, and he is still holding that position, recognised as being the most important and powerful in professional baseball.

Regarding his personal life, Rob Manfred is married to Colleen Feely, who he met at Le Moyne, and they have four children; they currently reside in Tarrytown, New York State. Rob is a Board member at Catholic School of Holy Child in Rye, New York.
