Rob Lowe Wiki Biography

A famous actor and television producer, Rob Lowe was born on March 16th 1964, in the United States of America, and as a child attended Santa Monica High School in Charlottesville, Virginia with future co-actors Amilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen, Robert Downey and Chris Penn. His family moved to Dayton, Ohio when Rob was a child. From infancy the actor hass been deaf in his right ear because of a viral infection, but some minor problems with health didn’t cause big obstructions to his future success, and his hard work and endeavours lead him from a small teenager role to the handsome adult in many famous TV shows. He is best  known for playing Sam Seaborn in the TV series “The West Wing” which ran from 1999 to 2003 in the USA. For this role he received $100,000 per episode which became the main source of his future net worth.

His debut was in 1983 in the TV film “Thursday’s Child” and later in the same year he starred in “The Outsiders”. There are some more Rob Lowe roles which need to be mentioned: John Seeger in “Atomic Train”, Alex in “Bad Influence”, Jeff Megall in “Thank You for Smoking” and Robert Layton in “The Christmas Blessing”. During his career Rob Lowe is mostly known for playing handsome and charming characters and was voted one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World by People magazine in 2000. His charming appearance and talent were noticed by the society and in 1987 Rob Lowe received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor thanks to his role as the mentally disabled Rory in “Square Dance”. Also he garnered a Primetime Emmy Award nomination and two Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his role in the TV series “The West Wing”.

Rob Lowe has estimated net worth of $30 million dollars. He owns a Georgian Home with two guesthouses and four kitchens, and one of these kitchens was designed by famous Interior Designer David Phoenix. But the actor’s biography isn’t as perfect as it would appear prima facie. In 1988 Rob Lowe was involved in a big scandal around a sexually explicit videotape, and just as this case was starting to be forgotten, another scandal came to the surface. This time one of the best known actors in the world had many problems associated with alcohol and drugs, and his reputation suffered again. Then he pulled himself together, and in the 1990’s he appeared to society as a good sober husband with exemplary behavior, and hasn’t had any apparent problems since then.

Rob accidentally met his future wife Sheryl Berkoff on a blind date in 1983, but their second meeting wasn’t until 1989 while filming the TV show “Bad Influence”. At that time Rob had already banished all of his bad habits and they married two years later in 2001. Nowadays he lives with Sheryl in USA.

Rob Lowe Quotes

  • [on the late Patrick Swayze] He was an expert dancer, he wrote hit songs, he starred in hit movies, he was an amazing horseman. But the thing I will remember him most for was his amazing love affair with his wife, Lisa [Lisa Niemi]. He played my brother twice, in The Outsiders (1983) when I was 17, and then in Youngblood (1986). Tonight, I lost a brother.
  • [on the death of James Gandolfini] James Gandolfini gave the greatest performance in the history of television. He was also a kind man. Condolences to his family.
  • A few years ago I got to a point where I realized that the only way you can tell someone’s age is how they live their life. The candles on the cake mean absolutely nothing.
  • … One of the great gifts we get (as actors) is that we live on, frozen in time, forever… Truly, the most fulfilling moments I’ve ever had are on the stage. If you can’t have that as an actor, then you might as well at least have that other great thing, which is immortality.
  • [on his short-lived sitcom, A New Kind of Family (1979)] It was notable only for how bad it was.
  • When I was young and crazy, I was young and crazy. It can be hard enough just to BE in your teens and 20s. Then add fame, money, access, and every single person telling you that you’re the greatest person who ever was, and it can be a recipe for disaster. Some people literally don’t survive it.

Rob Lowe Important Facts

  • $100,000 /episode(2001)
  • In 2015, he launched an online men’s skincare line branded as PROFILE(TM) Men’s Facial Products.
  • In his book “Love Life”, Rob Lowe tells a story about the filming of his series, The Lyon’s Den (2003), to illustrate what he sees, in hindsight, as the studio’s indifference to the show. Lowe says that to save money on the production, the main sets were constructed in an abandoned paint factory in the San Fernando Valley (instead of in a conventional soundstage on a studio lot in a more central location). The air-conditioning system in the ex-factory was faulty and, on hot days when it failed, crew members would often faint from the residual paint fumes. Furthermore, the building was next-door to a dildo factory (the San Fernando Valley is the capital of the U.S. porn and sex-toy industries). Lowe remembered that the same day they were told that the show was canceled (but they would still have to continue filming all 13 episodes for the overseas and DVD markets), there were wildfires in the Valley. The dildo factory was evacuated but the cast and crew of “The Lyon’s Den” was not allowed to do the same.
  • He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6667 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on December 8, 2015.
  • His parents were both of over half German ancestry. He also has a smaller amount of English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh, roots.
  • First met Sheryl Berkoff on a blind date in 1983. They met again in 1989 while Rob was filming Bad Influence (1990) and eventually got married two years later.
  • On the television show, Who Do You Think You Are? (2010), he found out some interesting things about his mother’s family. There was an application for admittance into the “Daughters of the American Revolution” from someone in Rob’s family because of his five times great-grandfather, John Christopher East. However, the application was denied because there was no proof that he fought in the Revolutionary War. Rob uncovered that John Christopher East (or Johan Christoph Oeste in German) was a Hessian soldier who fought for the British in the Battle of Trenton and was captured by George Washington. John Christopher East settled in the United States rather than return to Germany. While doing some digging, there was a record of John Christopher East on the side of the United States so the DAR accepted Rob’s ancestor as a patriot. Consequently, the “Sons of the American Revolution” invited Rob to become a member. Rob found it very interesting that his ancestor actually fought on both sides of the war.
  • During his teenage years, he was very good friends with Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen.
  • 2011: Lowe told USA Today that if he did not dye his hair, it would be entirely grey. He said he went grey at age 24.
  • Brother-in-law of Kim Painter.
  • 2009: Sold his six-bedroom house in Montecito, California for $7.6 million.
  • Parents are Charles Davis and Barbara Lynn Lowe.
  • Was considered for the role of Dr. Derek Shepard on Grey’s Anatomy (2005).
  • Rob has a younger brother, Justin W. Lowe, from his father’s second marriage.
  • One of the select few to be nominated for and subsequently “win” a Razzie Award and then not get another nomination again. Lowe “won” the 1986 Worst Supporting Actor Razzie for his performance in St. Elmo’s Fire (1985).
  • Was one of the nine original members of the 1980s “brat pack”, along with Judd Nelson, Mare Winningham, Anthony Michael Hall, Demi Moore, Ally Sheedy, Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez and Andrew McCarthy.
  • Has the dubious distinction of having left a successful television series (The West Wing (1999)), to having two failed television series within a year (The Lyon’s Den (2003) and Dr. Vegas (2004)), both of which were canceled before running their full seasons. He also rejected the role of Dr. Derek Shepard on Grey’s Anatomy (2005) (a series which was still running ten seasons after it premiered) in favor of his role on “The Lyon’s Den”, which was canceled after six episodes.
  • 2003: Helped in the election of Arnold Schwarzenegger as Governor of California.
  • His wife, Sheryl Berkoff, is a make-up artist.
  • He left the television series The West Wing (1999). Reports vary as to why, but it seems to have been a combination of salary dispute and screen-time dispute (the character he plays got less focus on the series in more recent episodes). He later appeared in the first 16 episodes of the next season, though. [August 2002]
  • Mike Myers is known to have resurrected Rob’s acting career. He and Rob became close friends while filming Wayne’s World (1992). Myers gave him an unbilled role in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) (although the scene was deleted in editing) and gave him a role as the young Number Two in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999).
  • Impersonated Robert Wagner’s voice for the young Number Two in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999).
  • Has two sons with Sheryl Berkoff: Edward Matthew Lowe (born in 1993) and John Owen Lowe (born in 1995).
  • Lost out for the role of Caledon Hockley in Titanic (1997), which went to Billy Zane.
  • Former brother-in-law of Oscar-winning actress Hilary Swank.
  • He is deaf in his right ear, from a virus as an infant.
  • Listed as one of twelve “Promising New Actors of 1984” in John Willis’ Screen World, Vol. 36.
  • He appeared in John Parr’s music video “St. Elmo’s Fire (Man In Motion)”.
  • Older brother of actor Chad Lowe and older half-brother of Micah Dyer.
  • 2000: Voted one of People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People in the World.
