Upon his return to the USA, he continued the same practice, but in the mid- ‘80s he decided to become a professional actor. He made his debut in the soap opera “Another World” (1986-1988), as Chad Rollo, followed by a string of roles in soap operas “As the World Turns” (1988-1989), and “One Life to Live” (1988). In 1992 he had another soap opera role, this time as Phillip Collier in “Days of Our Lives” (1992-1993). Two years later he was selected for the role of Detective Mack Wolfe in the TV series “One West Waikiki” (1994-1996), and then in 1996 his life changed completely when he was selected for the role of Jim Ellison in the action crime series “The Sentinel”. The series lasted until 1999, and Richard featured in all 65 episodes, which increased his net worth to a large degree, while also his name became more known in the Hollywood area thanks to the success of the show.
New TV roles came his way, and in 2001 he was selected for a double role in the TV crime action series “24”, as Alan York and Kevin Carroll, and then from 2002 to 2003 portrayed Michael Cassidy in the TV drama series “Judging Amy”.
