Raymond Cruz Wiki Biography
Raymond Cruz was born on 9 July 1961, in Los Angeles, California USA, of Mexican descent. He is an actor, probably best known for his role of Detective Julio Sanchez in the television series “The Closer” and in its spin-off “Major Crimes”, and that of the drug dealer Tuco Salamanca in the series “Breaking Bad” and its spin-off “Better Call Saul”.
So just how rich is Raymond Cruz at present? Sources state that Cruz has earned a net worth of over $2 million, as of late 2016, accumulated during his acting career which now stretches over almost 30 years.
Cruz grew up on the rough, gang-filled streets of East Los Angeles, however, at an early age he had already become interested in American literature, which kept him away from gang life. He attended East Los Angeles College, majoring in writing and theatre.
Cruz became interested in acting upon seeing the classic film “To Kill A Mockingbird”, but his professional acting career started in theatre. He made his film debut with a small part in the 1987 film “Maid to Order”, and went on to appear in numerous films in the ’90s, including “Under Siege”, “Blood In Blood Out”, “Clear And Present Danger”, “The Rock” and “From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money”, which established his net worth.
In the meantime, he was active on television as well, guest starring in a number of series during the ‘90s such as “Hunter”, “Murder: She Wrote”, “Walker, Texas Ranger” and “The X-Files”. Paving his way to fame and recognition, Cruz’s net worth started to rise.
The early 2000s were also a fairly busy period for Cruz; his film appearances of the time include “Training Day”, “Collateral Damage” and “My Name Is Honesty”. As for television, the early part of the decade saw him taking recurring roles in series like “Harsh Realm”, “The Division”, “24” and “Nip/Tuck”. In 2005 he was cast as Detective Julio Sanchez in the popular television police procedural “The Closer”, remaining in the show until 2012. His portrayal of Sanchez brought him astonishing popularity, considerably adding to his wealth. It also earned him two Image Foundation Awards for Best Supporting Actor. As of 2012, Cruz has reprized his role of Det. Julio Sanchez in the series “Major Crimes”, a spin-off from “The Closer”.
In the meantime, Cruz tackled a mix of film and television work. He appeared in the films “Havoc”, “Brothers in Arms” and “10 Tricks”, and landed recurring roles in the series “My Name Is Earl” and “Day Break”. He portrayed a drug lord Tuco Salamanca in several episodes of the hit series “Breaking Bad”, a role which significantly reinforced his popularity in the acting world, and he reprized his role of Salamanca in the series Better Call Saul”, a spin-off of “Breaking Bad” in 2015-2016. Playing Sanchez and Salamanca has been Cruz’s most recognizable work in his career, and a significant source of his net worth as well.
When it comes to his personal life, Cruz is married to Simi, but keeps his private life mostly away from the public eye.

- When I was a kid, they bused us down to a screening of To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) in an old theater and it was just a great experience. I became fascinated by the fact that you could translate written material into performance. That’s what compelled me to pursue this. I went to college and studied writing and I got involved in theater. It’s always been my passion. I love the challenge of translating the written word into performance.
