Rand Paul Wiki Biography

Randal Howard Paul is a trained ophthalmologist and an American politician born on 7 January 1963 in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is best known as a Republican Senator and the son of Ron Paul, a former Texas congressman. He has made several headlines, especially for his opinions on the controversial Civil Rights Act as well as his support for the Tea Party Movement.

Are you wondering how rich Rand Paul is, as of early 2016? Paul is a wealthy man with an estimated net worth of about $2.5 million. Of course he has made his money from his career as a Senator, earning about $300,000 annually in income. In 2012, he made $55,000 after selling his practice to concentrate on politics. He also has a property in Kentucky that’s valued between $50,000 and $100,000, and generating between $5,000 and $15,000 annually.

Rand Paul is the son of Carol Paul and Ron Paul, being the third of five children. Although he was born in Pittsburgh, he was raised in San Antonio, Texas after his family moved there when he was just a toddler. He joined Baylor University before moving to the medical school.at Duke University. He then pursued an internship in general surgery at George Baptist Medical Center located in Atlanta, Georgia.

In 1995, Rand Paul founded a non-profit facility that offered free eye care, which included free eye surgeries for poor children in developing countries. By this time, he had founded a watchdog group known as Kentucky Taxpayers United, which tracked spending issues and taxation in the state legislature of Kentucky, until 2000 when it was disbanded. In 2008, he became more popular not only in his home city, but also the entire US when he campaigned for his father in the presidential nominations for the Republican Party. Although unsuccessful, the campaign gave him a platform, attracting a massive following.

During the American economic crisis that was experienced in 2008, he became active in leading an anti-tax movement. He hinted that he would run to succeed Jim Bunning, the then retiring Kentucky Senator, and emerged victorious for the Senator’s seat in January 2011. While in the congress, he focused on issues which included lifting business restrictions by the Environment Protection Agency, cutting the benefits of Social Security, and reducing the federal debt.

In 2013, Rand Paul made headlines with his long speech – a so-called filibuster taking the Senate floor to speak against confirmation of the head of CIA John Brennan. He also took the opportunity to air his objections to the policy of President Barack Obama for striking terrorist using unarmed drones. In February 2014, he went to the courts, filing a lawsuit against government officials including the President himself over NSA’s collection of metadata from phones. In early 2015, he also advocated for change of US foreign policy, introducing a bill meant to reduce the aid to the Palestinian Authority.

In April 2015, Rand Paul announced that he would be one of the presidential candidates in 2016, but then dropped the bid in February 2016. He however stated that his political career is not over, and will continue to seek the nomination in the future.

In his personal life, Rand Paul met his later wife Kelly Ashby while at internship at Georgia Baptist Medical Center, and they married in 1991. When Paul was through with his internship, they left for Bowling Green in Kentucky, where they live. They have three sons.
