Raf Simons Wiki Biography
Raf Simons was born on 12 January 1968, in Neerpelt, Belgium to Jacques Simons and Alda Beckers, and is widely known as a fashion designer who has worked with brands such as Christian Dior and Jil Sander.
So just how rich is Raf Simons as of late 2017? According to authoritative sources, this fashion designer has net worth of over $18 million, accumulated from his over two decades long career in the fashion world.
When it comes to Raf’s early life and education, he attended college in Genk and graduated with a degree in Industrial Design and Furniture Design in 1991, but even during this time he was interested in fashion, which he would often discuss with his friends and then-girlfriend. After graduation, he went on to work in furniture design, however, encouraged by Linda Loppa he started designing menswear, and created his own self-entitled brand in 1995. Raf’s first collection featured two models in a video presentation, and up until 1997 his collections were presented in such a way. His first show presented on a runaway took place in Paris, and had the look of ‘’American college students and English schoolboys with a background of New Wave and Punk’’, as fashion experts described it at that time, and notably Simons’ early collections were inspired by youth cultures from differing backgrounds. Additionally, he was inspired by singers from bands such as Joy Division and Manic Street Preachers. His net worth was established.
He continued working at a steady pace throughout the following years, and in 2003 his efforts were recognized, as he received the Swiss Textiles Award and 100,000 Euros. Besides creating clothing for his own collection, Raf also had numerous collaborations with plenty of other notable fashion brands. In 2008 he worked with Fred Perry, and after that collaborated with Eastpak, and created bags with them for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Besides that, he designed denim for Sterling Ruby in 2009, and the duo would work once again a couple of years later. In 2013, he worked with Adidas, one of the most prominent sports brands worldwide. The next year Raf and Ruby crossed professional paths once again, and created a Fall/Winter collection of clothing. When it comes to the most recent past, Simons collaborated with the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation for his 2017 collection.
Besides working at his own fashion company and collaborating with other brands, Raf began serving as a Creative Director for the Jil Sander label, and taking this position, Simons debuted in womenswear and accessories. He remained in the position until 2012, with his last collection being the Fall/Winter collection of 2012. Having finished with that job, Raf went on to replace John Galliano in the position of creative director at Dior, one of the world’s most prestigious fashion brands, and then in 2016 he joined Calvin Klein, making his debut with the Fall 2017 season. His efforts were recognized by the media as his collection was described as ‘’the most anticipated fashion show in decades turned out to be brilliant’’, so doing his net worth no harm at all.
When it comes to Raf’s private life, he is in a relationship with Jean-Georges d’Orazio, another fashion world name and his professional partner at Dior. He is active on social media websites such as Instagram, on which his account is followed by more than 625,000 people. In the past, Simons faced harsh criticism for hiring only white models to walk in his fashion shows, but this is changing, if slowly.
