Raekwon Wiki Biography
Corey Quontrell Woods was born on the 12th January 1970, in Staten Island, New York City USA, and is a hip hop singer who is well known under the stage name Raekwon. It should be said that the rapper is also recognized under other names including RAEK WON, Chef Raekwon, Corey Woods, The Chef, Shallah, Lou Diamonds, Lex Diamonds, Shallah Raekwon and others. He is considered to be a pathfinder of Mafioso rap which is a subgenre of gangsta or thug rap styles. Raekwon has been accumulating his net worth being active in the music industry since 1992.
How rich is this musician? Over his long spanned career of more than 20 years, Raekwon has accumulated a net worth of over $12 million.
To start with, Raekwon’s musical career began in the early 1990s in the New York underground. In 1993, he joined the Wu-Tang Clan and participated in almost all the songs on the album “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)” (1993). The same year, he released the single “Ice Cream” which was listed into the album “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx” (1994) which was recognized as one of the best solo albums of the members of Wu-Tang, performed together with his friend Ghostface Killah. In most of the tracks of the album, Raekwon is devoted to storytelling; he appeared as a narrator of stories touching mostly the themes of drug trafficking and organized crime.
Raekwon also participated in Wu solo projects, including the famous “Tical” (1994) “Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version ODB” (1995) and “GZA Liquid Swords” (1996). We find Raekwon with the Wu-Tang Clan in the studio albums “Forever” (1997) and “The W” (1999). Then he released his second album, entitled “Immobilarity” (1999) which was less well received despite the Casablanca flagship titles. “The Lex Diamond Story” (2003) managed to repeat the success of his first album, although receiving a mixed reception from critics. In 2004, he recorded the “De Park Hill 91 Pisa” with French rapper Ol’Kainry, which was later listed in the album “Men of Honor” (2004).
In 2006, he left Universal Records to sign with the label of Dr. Dre, Aftermath Entertainment, although never released an album under this label. His fourth solo album “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt. II” (2009) made a great impact to the hip-hop community, and following its release, Raekwon was invited to participate in many projects, including alongside rappers Lloyd Banks and Big Boi. The artist then released an album entitled “Wu-Massacre” (2010) in collaboration with two other members of Wu-Tang, Method Man and Ghostface Killah. His fifth solo album, “Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang” (2011) offered much more variety than usual collaborations, including R & B singer Estelle and rapper Rick Ross. Among producers of the album were such well known figures as The Alchemist, DJ Khalil, Mathematics and Evidence. All the above mentioned engagements and releases have added significant sums to the total size of Raekwon net worth and popularity.
Finally, in the personal life of the hip hop artist, he converted to Islam in 2009. He has fathered two children Jabairi Woods and Cori Andrea Woods with separate long-term but unnamed girlfriends.
