Quincey Matthew Hanley Wiki Biography
Quincey Matthew Hanley was born on 26 October 1986, in Wiesbaden, Germany, where his father was serving in the military. As Schoolboy Q he is a new generation West Coast rapper who began his career in 2006.
So just how rich is Schoolboy Q? Sources estimate that he has a net worth of $1.5 million, earned from several rap music albums, the first of which came out in 2008, but mostly from his major label debut studio album, entitled ‘Oxymoron’ which he released after signing with Interscope in February 2014 and is a big success.
Even though Schoolboy Q is a West Coast rapper his music has similarities with that of famous East Coast rappers such as 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Puff Daddy as well as others.
His parents separated before Quincey was born, and his mother eventually settled with him in Los Angeles, California, where he grew up attending Crenshaw High School, and then Glendale Community College before dropping-out. While in school Quincy was a self-described nerd with glasses who had excellent grades and graduated from high school with a 3.3 GPA – ‘schoolboy’ was his nickname coming from those days, plus his initial Q – as well as distinguishing himself as an athlete on the high school’s football team. However, he was also influenced by his uncles who were into drugs and violence, and it seems the bad influences took over and he joined the street gangs and started carrying weapons and selling drugs. He was arrested twice, the second of which was in 2007 for a crime he refuses disclose, but interestingly, even though Q claims that he was sent to jail for six months, no official criminal record of this incident has been found.
In any case, around this time Schoolboy Q began his career as a rapper. In 2006, when he was 21 years old he signed a contract with Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) an also joined the hip-hop group Black Hippy. In this way he began working with new rising West Coast rappers Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock. Schoolboy Q really started his net worth when he released several of his albums and mixtapes. Quincey’s first album “Setbacks” got to number 100 on the US Billboard Top 200, and his second, “Habits & Contradictions” reached 111th on the same chart. These numbers mean that Schoolboy Q’s net worth was already growing, but a real success occurred in 2013 when Q managed to sign a major contract with Interscope Records worth $2 million for five albums. The singles “Yay Yay”, “Collard Greens”, “Man of the Year” and “Break the Bank” were followed by an album entitled ‘Oxymoron’ which was released in February 2014. For this album Interscope Record generously spent $200,000 to get the best producers and artists such as Pharrell, Boi 1Da, and Mike Will Made It to contribute to the album. Prospects are good for Shoolboy Q and his net worth is likely to grow a lot.
In his personal life, Schoolboy Q has a daughter, born in 2010 – unusually, there are no public details of the mother, but perhaps that is consistent with Schoolboy Q’s whole life.
